I'm not quite sure what you're getting at but this is from the CONGU manual:

"It is against the spirit and intent of the system to adjust the terms and conditions of a competition deliberately, so that it is rendered non-qualifying on a technicality."

Thanks.

The club who is holding the men's individual stableford open have set the comp for the last few years as 3/4 stableford non qualifying.

Now that 3/4 has been abolished, this said club is still holding their own men's individual stableford comp as 3/4 making it a non qualifying comp.

Thanks.

If the national union became aware of it, there could be sanctions applied to the club.

Thanks.

I'm guessing the clubs that do this prob think that people won't play the Open if they think it affects their HC hence using a HC allocation to make it a Non Q

Sadly this is the state of things.

Large prize tables and NQ status attract larger fields than well run Q events with well established pedigree status ie you win 'The xyz Cup' and are acknowledged as such when you go back to defend it the following year...

But I digress - sorry.

Within our own group we play two days a week.

We play full handicap on one of the days and three quarters on the other to try and even out the winners (we have a few bandits that never play in club comps).

It is noticeable that on the full handicap days we have a 'full field' of players and on the three quarter day we only have about half to three quarters of the number.

Obviously these are non qualifying (we also play gimmes).

Thanks.

A Club mentioned they were doing this at a county meeting and were advised that they would be de-affiliated if they continued to do so.
