iron covers...

Me! Had some on my forged Mizunos and then when I switched to Ping figured I wouldn't need them. Two rounds of clanking heads and some obvious wear and I went back to covers. I also towel my club after every shot but then I'm a bit OCD and hate mud and muck on stuff - including my hands but have to stop checking them this time of year !

Surely the clubs are more likely to clatter when carrying?

I can put a hand on a few at the same time but not all 11 irons / wedges

And too cold at this time of year.

Cheers

Steve...

Unless you walk like mr soft from the soft mints advert I don't see how they have to clatter. Your body would cause a bag to rattle less as the legs/body flex takes the bumps more than a fixed trolley would.

I carry, my clubs do not clatter, and appart from a small stone mark in my 58* my clubs are mint. 2 years carrying hasn't done them no harm so far!

I use them, but only when travelling abroad. I put them on to protect the clubs in the travel bag, but as soon as I arrive they're off.

Sorry but if I carry there is always a degree of clatter. I don't find it unduly offputting but it does mark the clubs after a while. I really don't know anyone who carries in my Saturday group that does so without making a bit of racket

I find it all depends on the bag. Not alot of carry bags have 14 dividers. I only carry, my previous callaway bag was better than my current titleist one. The callaway was 8 or 9 dividers (Cant remember now) but my titleist is only 6.

I use iron headcovers... but being a true yorkshire man, I've lost a few so every other club has one now.
I'm trying to find a set of masters ones, they fit very tight and seem to be nice and thick.

Not only do they cause slow play when there being slipped on and off the irons, you then have to wait on half the holes while there owner zig zags up and down the fairway like a demented springer spaniel looking for the missing 7 iron cover.
My irons are 8 years old and look almost new,so if your bag is positioned on your back instead of banging off your arse, there is hardly any bag clatter to speak of.

I use the zipped neoprene jobbies with a magnetic tab... Don't believe they encourage slow play... I am quite capable of cleaning club refitting cover and returning to bag whilst walking to my next shot...

the same person in american golf tries to get me to buy them everytime i go but they are just a waste of time. you dont see the pros using them do you?

Sorry but I disagree. I take my iron cover off, put it on my bag, hit my shot and clean my club and out the cover back on as I'm wheeling my trolly to the next shot. Not a hint of wasted time.

With Homer on this one! Why would they contribute to slow play?

I guess wearing a glove or perhaps repairing pitch marks would also aid slow play?

How about being over 50? They move slower than younger people?
