not at first, I didn't realise there was one, however I did later and the problem remained, in my computer it just says the ipod needs troubleshooting and when I click on it nothing happens.

It might be worth swapping the USB cable if poss

Sounds like a cable or Driver error

If you get no joy with a different cable, put the magic words
" ipod classic windows 7 64 bit driver" into google

It could be that the ipod is pulling more current than the standard USB port can supply. I would recommend using it with a powered USB hub.

Googled it and found this, sounds promising....

"Hi mate, I've had the exact same problem and just this minute found the solution. Go into control panel>system and security>administrative tools then double click on computer management. This brings up a new window... then... on the left side click on device manager and click on the little arrow or plus sign next to the Universal Serial Bus Controller option. Find the iPod in there (hopefully!) and right click and update. If it's not in there, it may be one of the USB mass storage devices, so update those. If it's still not one of those (mine wasn't but that's where Apple said it would be) have a look in Portable Devices, which is further up the list of devices to be managed. Then update. This worked for me on Windows 7 Home Premium, so yeah.. hope this works for you too!"
