Hello,

I have just got myself an iphone and I have noticed that in the top left hand corner next to the service provider symbol there is a small white circle. It is there all the time. Can anyone tell me what this is. Does it mean I am constantly connected to the internet and therefore being charged for it?

Thanks for the help and please excuse my ignorance.

Cheers

It's a little fan when you're connected by WiFi, it says 3G when you're connected over the 3G network and the little circle means you're connected to "the cloud"....I think. It's in the booklet you got with the phone somewhere. Not sure about the payment thing.

Yeah its your level of coverage (i think the circle is possibly the worst type next to no coverage).

Up from the circle is E for edge, and then 3g. If you never have anything other than the circle I would be checking with your network what your coverage is like in your area and if they claim its ok, I would contact apple to maybe have the phone fixed or replaced. My first one would never connect to 3g, I took it into the 02 shop and the guy said turn it off and just use the 2g network. I laughed at him and said 'do you want the content of my wallet to wipe your A*s on too? I paid for a 3g phone. I had it replaced :D

If it is there the whole time, i'd be a bit dissapointed, you want tht symbol to change to the 3g one!

Dont know the actual problem but one of my mates suggested toggling between airplane mode and normal mode. Apparently it makes the phone search harder for a network when you switch back to normal mode. I can get 3g now but not in my house. I guess it's a location problem.

Everything is powered by wind up here, AW. Didn't you know that? Particularly the conversation.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Some of the members at my club could definately be hooked up to the national grid. :)
