Intelligence

My old uncle was a quality coach and used to say the you had to be either highly intelligent or as thick as a brick to make a great golfer.

Look through the major winners and I think you can see what he means.

I like to think I'm a fairly intelligent bloke. I've always been good academically, I've got a good job and hold some pretty good networking qualifications. I tend to pick up new stuff quickly, can generally think on my feet and am good at coming up with solutions to difficult/unusual problems.

So why is it when I step on a golf course I turn into the village idiot? The number of shots I drop due to being a complete thicko beggars belief. I really need to learn that hitting good golf shots is only any use if you hit the right golf shot - and fast.

I've seen you play. You're not an idiot (other than partnering me). It takes time to learn the nuances of any course (look at that 12th green you struggled with at RA) and from what I've seen Blackmoor has a lot to learn. It's still winter golf so a ball will land and spin, especially on a slope. If you weren't hitting good shots and hitting it fat/thin or side to side then I'd be worried in your golf shoes but you seem to be playing ok. Learn the course, perhaps look at a long pitch and run for the hole in particular, and see what happens when the greens firm up. I don't think it's decision making
