Inch's

Kid , I have played to my handicap or better 3 times this year. Once at Camberley , once in a scratch league game and once in a comp at my old course. If I was to worry about it I would have packed it in months ago.

The beauty of this game is in the playing of it. Your handicap is only a number and the more you worry about it the more it will be a monkey on your back. Relax , hit your shot and forget about it until you find it. Take pleasure in the few shots you hit bang on or in getting a miracle save from out of the cabbage. A holed monster putt or a beautifully drawn tee shot to the corner of a dogleg. These are the true delights of playing golf.

Get caught up in wanting to lower your handicap by obsessing over it day and night and you'll lose sight of the great pleasures this game can bring you. I go out on my own these days and just thoroughly enjoy playing golf for golfs' sake. I make a double bogey , so what. I then make 4 or 5 pars on the trot , so what. Make a treble , so what no-ones died and its only a hobby.

Get some perspective about it or go back to playing football and shout and bitch at the referee. Either way you're gonna have a heart attack with the stress and make life a misery for your family.

JD.....As much as iv replied to other posts in a very similar manner to yours taking my own medicine seems sour tasting but you know what?...........Your after driving home the point to me pal....Your 100% spot on.

As Murg and Homer and a few of the lads have said like you i need to enjoy it more...
After all its only a game isnt it?

My problem is striving for perfection when there is no such thing. :o

Thanks for the wake up call gents. ;)

And another thing a handicap is only a number. Personally I am getting to the stage of not caring what it is, if people want to think you are rubbish as you play off 21 then so what? (not you specifically)

It's just that i'm speaking from experience mate and the point of asking us all the question , is wanting the truth from the answers. I obsessed about golf and it got me a lowish h/c of 3 but I was miserable if truth be told. I couldnt have been much fun to live with and I reckon I ended up a golf bore tbh. A swift kick up my own behind and watching the soldiers coming home with no legs/arms/eyes etc brought some much needed perspective to whacking a little white golf ball around a field.

It takes a little time to fully wind down though as I was (probs still am inside) a hugely competitive beast like yourself. I still set out on rounds with the initention of playing well but at the end whether its been good or bad I just go home and get on with the rest of my life without diagnosing every shot/hole a million times for the next week.

Hope you get it sorted in a way that you can live with.
