That's all I am from putting in 6 months of hard training and re-igniting my football career....

After a complete nightmare this morning im just completely disheartened....
Iv been to 16 and since September last year i having seen any sign of an improvement to even give me a glimmer of hope.

I just cant get any type of consistency or confidence in my game in any shape or form...

Most greens i get on i can come away with a 2 putt which is a good thing i suppose but getting on them is the issue.

After pulling a hoodini act on our first out of the cabbage and saved par i thought that i was off to a flier...

Stood on our 2nd Par 3 at 158 mtrs and a breeze into the face with a long carry over water i said ill play the safe option and hit my 21 degree hybrid...

hit my tee shot straight left and airmailed the green by at least 40 mtrs....
Tried to hit my 3rd softer and hit the bank at the far side of the lake and got wet....
Hitting 5 i decided to hit my 4 iron which is 1 more club than id normally hit and stuck in the bunker at the right hand side of the green...Out of the bunker for 6 and followed it with 3 putts......

6 over for 2 holes
I tried to keep the chin up and push and see if i could scrape a few birdies but it wasnt to be...

All my bad shots seem to be pulls and when your normal shot is a fade its hard to stand over a tee shot an be confident that your gonna swing right to left.

Well after 9 holes i was 19 over and 2 over my allotted handicap of 17...

Still hadn't thrown in the towel at this stage hoping that i might sort myself out on the back nine and after parring 10 i had a glimmer of hope...

Tee shot on 11 went into the cabbage after a big high draw when i was aiming left hoping that my fade was gonna kick in and put me around the bend in the fairway...

I found the tee ball but was in waist high grass and tried to hack out as i had done on the first but just put it deeper into trouble only to loose sight and loose confidence....

I was embarrassed at holding up play so...
Carded an N/R for the hole and that was that...

Just crippling....

Spent the remainder of the holes hitting my irons and trying to figure out what was going on but just couldn't sort it out....

What to do now? :(

I thought you said you were going to train hard and re-ignite your football career :)

If it really is causing that much of a problem go and have a quick lesson, I know you were saying money is tight and all but it will more than likely be something simple.

Remember this is something you do for enjoyment!

Totally agree with Chris here.

This is something you do that you should enjoy. Maybe you're putting a little to much pressure on yourself.

Either way the investment in a lesson will be well worth it, if only to give you some more enjoyment of the game.

Keep plugging away and relax

Ok i can see the angle that both of ye are coming from gents but when you come from playing footie competitively its very hard to let that competitive edge go...

Thats why i cant give into it...
I think the most frustrating thing is that i cant understand why these destructive shots are happening...
After that its just the snowball effect...

Well that's all the more reason to spend the forty yoyos on a lesson. I have been going through the process of changing my swing and every now and again one old habit creeps in, but I do have an idea of what I am doing, if I didn't the first thing to do would be a lesson!

See where I am coming from here ;)

Try 75 yoyo's pal....
That's the Rob down this end...

And the worst part is apparently he's the best pro down this side so he can pretty much charge what he likes.

I would hold off lacing the boots back up. I played the medal today and went out in 50 and used all my handicap (and some of my allowance for next week :o ) on the front nine and limped home in a slightly more respectable 43. 93 - nett 80. It happens and I wouldn't worry. My game has been total rubbish all weekend and so its off to the range tomorrow for a hard practice session and a lesson if I can't get it fixed. If it's any consolation I've gone from 12-14 this season and rarely threatened to get cut but I still enjoy the challenge everytime I go out with a card and pencil in hand

Now you can see my dilemma pal..

Not really mate, if you enjoy playing then it is the value you get from the lesson which hopefully will sort out a couple of problems (if not all of them).

I am assuming that is for an hour can you not get it split into two half hour lessons?

That's the catch Homer...
I love the challenge too but its hard standing over shot when your playing for your fade and your double crossed only to stand over the next one and have no idea where to aim...

Im drawing the ball on some shots which im sensing that im doing something right in the swing but then i could stand over the next one and pull it straight left...

If someone could put me at ease and tell me that these things happen when you make small changes to a swing and that it will take a few months to right itself id be over the moon but there is just too much going on.

There could be a few reasons for the halt on progress and heres some things to chew on.

A lesson or three to check your swing. Even if you think it is ok, you will need it fine tuned for the next step to single figures.

If you are making swing changes, these will need time to bed in. The worst thing you can do is fiddle with your swing mid season, best to make changes over the winter and spend time bedding the changes in. The range is ideal for this also good for working on the long game.

Have a look at your course management, Only low single figure guys need to go for everything, the rest of us need to take our medicine and not compound mistakes. If your card is full of double bogeys, then your course management sucks.

Short game, short game, short game. You need to practice from 100yards in to keep the handicap moving. You are still going to miss plenty of green and with good wedge play you will save plenty of shots. This is where you save pars and make no worse than a bogey.

Putting, putting, putting need i say more?

Im aware of the Above mate my course management is fair but the doubles and worse that end up on my card are from wayward tee shots......my short game isnt bad.

[/QUOTE]

Every one will hit wayward tee shots, even the pro's, dont expect too much from yourself off the tee as long as its not silly wayward. If they are silly then your swings all to pot and you need lessons sharpish.

The doubles dont come from bad tee shots, they come from poor choice of second shots and poor wedgeplay and putting.

If you look at how many double, triples you have and take them to a bogey, you will have saved 5+ strokes. Thats single figures.

Have a honest look at your game and focus on where you can save shots. Not how you can make loads of pars. Thats the next step to get to single figures. Get those blobs off the card.

I shot my PB on Wednesday.

Saturday I carded a horrific net 85 with 47 putts.

It's only a game, take a step back and play for fun the next couple of weeks.

Hth

Steve...

Ps, I got a putting lesson booked for next weekend :)
