In general what do Committee Members do ?

Our committee does pretty much sod all as it's a proprietors club and they rarely do what the committee suggests.

In your words they "do sod all". Have you ever been involved - or volunteered to be involved - in what can be very difficult negotiations with the owners of proprietary clubs? The owners have their own agenda which has to be recognised in any discussions if you want progress

Yes I have offered to be on the committee and I'm going by what current committee members have told me. They have made many many suggestions for easy, cheap and quick changes to the course that would improve it but they never happen. A lot of committee members end up leaving the committee for this exact reason.
The pro we have there now has managed to get things moving in the right direction with extensive work being carried out on the driving range this year but there are still issues on the course that need sorting out as well. There have already been some changes on the course but they are down to the pro making the suggestions not the committee.

A word of advice to new committee members, don't go rushing in full of bright ideas.
Get your feet under the table and make friends and allies first.

I have seen many new committee members with a ' I'll sort them out attitude' have their bubbles burst early on.
Their 'bright new ideas' are generally old chestnuts that have been discussed many times before.
