In Game - Focus

this is something i'm having to work on myself.

contless times throughout the season i would be shooting really well but by the time i get to the 12th or 14th i would crunble and fall apart.

i've tried a few methods, one being the "play 6 lots of 3 holes" and a few others.

the last round of the year i was doing really well,i was just thinking about the very next shot and i went out in -3 and i wasn't letting it get to me.i then missed a 6 ft putt birdie on 10 to go -4 and i think this was the turning point.

i fell apart and made silly mistakes,i still finished good with a +3 but i lost 6 shots on the back 9.
i hope i can turn it around next season.

I think that those that have played (or should that be endured) a round with me and my regular partners like Hawkeye and Sundance will say the glove trigger doesn't make me slower. They will also say that I use the same pre-shot routine as well on every shot and again its not overly complex or time consuming. I do this at the range too and what I do on the mat in the bay is mirrored on the course (apart from they go straight on the range). Rotella talks a lot about a pre-shot routine being your staff to support you when its getting a bit tight down the last few holes.

.

A trigger doesnt have to make you slower ?

Is that not the point of a trigger?

Sorry Hommer I may be confused by your last post but what do people think is wrong with your trigger???

Rosecott - 19.6 like i said earlier they didn't take the supp cards and I havent shot under 40 on either 9 since.

it was one of those rounds where even the mishits landed 2 feet from the hole.

hit a 4 iron from 200 yds to our 9th, it caught the ditch 60yds from the hole leapt up and rolled 10ft from the hole for a 2 putt par.

Sorry slicer30, your post about non-acceptance of supplementaries was on another thread and I'm easily confused at my age.

Pre shot routine.
You need to know what it is you do to hit a good shot and make sure you try and think the same things before each shot.
Whether its "slow back and wait" or
"head still and turn"
Whatever it is, build it into a pre shot routine so you dont forget it.
Use it on your rehearshal swing then commit quickly after it to the actual shot.
That way the brain wont switch off and start thinking about other stuff.
And to start it all off, say to your mates something like "right it's my go" which actually means stop talking to me.

I do have a pre-shot routine. But if they are talking on the tee even low. It niggles in the back of my mind. Ok I should stand back tell them to shut up and start again. But I tend to just try and get on with it. Until it really starts to get on my nerves.

The glove trigger works for me. I start my pre shot by fastening the velcro on the glove, if I have the glove on, I undo it and then do it up. At that point I am standing behind the ball with the club of choice and then go through my pre shot routine. I would rarely answer anyone who spoke once the trigger was set but dont find it difficult to re focus. If you are really concentrating on the shot it shouldnt be too difficult to ignore any distractions. I quite like it at the range when its a bit noisy as I can work on the technique for blocking out the noise.

I've got slated on here before for this but hey ho. I use the glove as my starting point. Putting it on gets me focussed to play the shot. Take the club, put the glove on and get over the ball. Take my stance , check the target and make the swing with or without a swing thought depending on the day. Once the ball lands and the glove comes off its all over and time to forget it until the next shot

I do similar, but instead of fully removing the glove I just undo the velcro in between shots. When it's my turn to play I do up the velcro and go into shot mode and when I'm done I undo the velcro and go into chat mode.

It's something I stole from Ernie Els.

Shame I didn't nick his rhythm
