Heres the situation from april to september I have a free day off every day thats what 6 months 183 days or there abouts.

How can i take advantage of this golf wise i was hoping for some ideas.

thanks connor

Erm... play, get taught and practice golf maybe?
Lucky fella! ;) make the most of the free time, gets much less as you get older.

Connor,

Diet would need to be a 365 day committment. You could go to the gym but you'd need to speak to a good golf pro first and find out what sort of exercises relate specifically to golf so you are working the right things.

If you're looking golf wise I'd suggest finding a good short game area somewhere and a good teacher and get your chipping and putting red hot. Otherwise get out and play as much as you can. Make it a bit more interesting if you play the same course by using something like a 7 iron off the tee to leave a longer second into a hole or trying to shape shots off the tee and into the flag

God Mono,
Without prying too much from your photo you look pretty young....A lad your age should stay clear of weights as your body is still growing.
Why the need for the diet....just eat more healthy if thats whats worrying you
And as regards your days off id spend them 50/50 on your weaknesses and your short game, but above all chill out and enjoy being young it doesn't last forever.... ;)

I would say it depends on what your targets or goals are, i.e just lower hap or try to get good enough to make a living from golf.

Talk to your local pro and tell them your target/goal and see what they suggest.

Whatever you do make sure you have fun doing it because until you get to having to make putts on Sunday afternoon to pay the bills, golf should be fun before anything else.

Seems to me that you have your sights set on being a pro golfer, sorry if I'm wrong but if you have in that case you will have to live eat and drink golf for the next few years.

I would love to be a pro and would set my sights on it and i am commited to going the gym and will eat a good diet 365 days a year any ideas homer, drawboy forumers

I think the best thing you can do is, i see your handicap is twelve your going to have to take 17 off that to be a pro and yes diet ect is something to think about but you are going to have to play and get that handicap cut.

All the best in your quest though :)

I would do as Homer suggested, approach your pro and ask if you could help out in the shop, I wouldn't expect or ask for wages, times are hard for club pro's but it could get your foot in the door and you would learn a bit. Touring pro's are very special creatures and there aren't many who can get to the top, stay there and reap the rewards. There are lots of club pro's making a living out of golf though but it's 7 days a week and in summer 12 hour days.

Problem is im moving clubs currently.

Also when i move to my new club will i have to get a new handicap.

Your handicap should be transferred across to your new club. However if you are moving from a junior to adult handicap you may need to submit 3 cards off the gents medal tees.

If at the end of this half year off and endless golf if you can't get it round in at least level par maybe start looking at other career options.

However this is your chance - really apply yourself and don't waste the opportunity!

A free day off every day? And you are 15/16? and you are asking here about diet, career planning and life advice?

I recommend getting a life, sorry...

Don't most touring pros reckon on hitting 800+ balls each non playing day ?

So, maybe something like :

Monday : AM hit 400 balls. Hang around the pro's for a couple of hours. PM hit 400 more balls

Tuesday : AM Lesson. Help pro. PM hit 500 balls

Wednesday : Play 36 holes

Thursday : AM help Mum with the shopping/housework. PM hit 500 balls

Friday : DAY Play 27 holes. EVE Hang around shoping mall with mates.

Saturday : Do Saturday job. Give Mum £10 a week

Sunday : AM Rest. PM Chores

Obviously needs mixing up, but you get my drift, I hope.

I suppose it just depends on what type of pro you want to be. I have a few mates who turned pro and they were all playing off scratch to 4 by the time they were your age and had been playing off a single figure handicap for a two or three years. Pro golf is a hard game to get into and make a good living from. Most of them are in a position to train as a pro by the time they are leaving school, it is so much harder to cut your handicap once working or in further education.

What I am really saying is practice hard, cut that handicap and and then start to worry about diet and gym work. Playing golf will strengthen your golf muscles. Remember most of the golfing greats never entered a gym until the last 20 years, it was just not the done thing and they could get the ball round in low numbers. I understand that golf has moved on and most golf pro's are in the gym, although not all, but as I said earlier get that handicap down and all the best with your plans.

mono - 100 yards and in and puttin -that`s what u should be workin on with ur spare time and not forgettin ur school work ,also once u`ve settled in at ur new club speak with ur junior convener and ask about local junior comps /regional comps -get out there and compete against ur own age group - if u du well and get noticed - u`ll catch the eye of the county selectors and be put forward for regional coaching etc.. stick in mate

Hi,
I think playing comps to keep the handicap coming down is the way to go, I see the good juniors in our club spend hours on the pratice ground chipping and pitching on the days off there are no comps the short game is key to keep the handicap low but not much good if your long game is not up to scratch, I would not get too caught up in doing too much gym work I'd just be doing a bit of jogging and very light weights maybe take up yoga to improve flexibility.
