I'm not very long....

AW i wouldn't worry about it i think that the custom fitting machine was cranked right up to make it look good. Those distances in this cool air ,wet ground are ok as OAP2 :) said a short iron or mid iron in.

I have feelings you know.... ;)

I've been saying for yonks that I'm a short hitter and GPS only backed that point even more. Now HTL in his pomp was a long hitter and I know when he and I have played with Smiffy he has hit 300 yard drives as we measured it but even then it was the height of summer and bone hard.

At the end of the day as long as you hit it straight and are playing off the short stuff, this time of year is why we have shots as it takes the pressure off reaching the long par 4's.

By the way did Titleist beat Callaway and did it have to give any shots?

Titleist beat Callaway 3&2.

The reason this annoyed me is because I've got five dozen Wilson balls sitting in my hall. I bought these because I thought the Titleist ball was too good for me.

I was wrong.

It's a superb ball for all levels and all conditions.

That doesn't make any sense. You have 5 dozen Wilsons, and play Titleist v Cally?

Yeah, the Wilsons are new. I'm not going to waste them on practice.

I wouldn't want to lose a brand new Wilson ball, in all it's loveliness...

If you play on Monday, I'd use a new Wilson for that. Only a Dx2 though....certainly not a Dx3!! I save them for Smiffy, JustOne and Leftie. ;)

I am currently hitting Srixon trispeed tours.

I could hit Bridgestone 330 RX, RXS, ProV1s, Zstars or PTS solos as alternatives. I have loads of each (except the solos, where I only have the 3).

On Monday, I shall mainly be losing trispeeds (I think).

I have about 100-102 mph driver swing speed, and that should equate to about 240-245 carry. if the wind is behind, the fairway running fast or downhill, and if I really catch it with a bit of draw, it can get a bit more carry and maybe run out far enough to have a crack at most of the par 5s at Bearwood Lakes in 2.

But into the wind, uphill, hit out of the heel, not so much.

I reckon the average player with 95-100 mph swing speed can get the odd drive to end up 270 or 280 off the tee in favourable conditions, but they forget to count the opposite one which goes 200 yards into the average.

To carry the ball 280 yards on the flat in average conditions requires over 100 mph swing speed applied squarely to the ball. Not many players on golf forums manage that too often.

I have issues with left. If there is any sort of ob, or trees, rough, leaves, down the left, that'll be me stuffed then. I am playing the trispeeds because they are cheap. I'm not being gloomy, I just know my game. Or lack of it.

If I can get near a green, I'm in. Short game is scorchio.

My swing speed is 96 mph. (Note: not 95 which is slow, or 97 which is indecently quick).

This is faster than average (apparently), yet on here I must be quite a short hitter.

That said, at the moment I can hit my 5i further than my driver. May be I glued the head on wrong?

You won't like the 1st at mine then. Or the 2nd. Or the 5th. or the 12th. Or the 15th.

Other than that, you'll be fine.

Can we play for £50?? :o

There was a post this week where one of the forum members got custom fitted for a driver and it was giving him carry of 300 yards. How is that possible?? Surely, if you can carry 300 yards, you'd be on the tour wouldn't you??

Please note: I'm not questioning the forum member, more the results of the custom fitting machine.

You'd be on tour if you hit it 300yds straight, hit the green 70% of the time from the fairway, can get up and down from most places 70% of the time and averaged 27 putts per round.

I agree with the principal of what you're saying though :)

There are plenty of amateurs that hit it a long way though, doesn't make them great golfers without the rest of the game to back it up.

From memory of his previous posts, and not wanting to sound like the guys stalker, he's uni age, built like a brick outhouse, has a swing speed in the 120's and plays off 1.

I'm just saying it's possible, but totally agree on 99% overestimating out on the course without GPS.

This week I am mostly playing trispeeds, ad333 and distance. Got me a dozen trispeeds and ad333's and 4 dozen distance for the winter. Oh and some warbirds thrown in for good measure!

I'm envisaging 226 on some holes on my course. Given the weather and ground, I'm impressed.

As ever Dodger hits the nail on the heed with his own brand of clarity...pish...none of us hit it as far as we think when we finally get round to measuring them with a gps. Big reality checks for 100 % of the bull sh!tters

Measured a one of my better drives today, well when I say measured it was more done by use of the scorecard and the yardage markers. 375 yard par 4 and the ball was sat in it's own pitch mark alongside the 150 yard marker :o

Some on here are big hitters though, played with Beggsy last year, I absolutely mullered my 5 wood on a downhill par 4, came to rest at about 230 yards according to the scoresaver book. Beggsy then takes his 5 iron and knocks one 20 yards past my ball!

For the OP

You are significantly longer than average with those numbers. Swinging close to 100mph is considered a FAST swing, certainly stiff shafts, add 10 more mph and you are looking at X

I used to do the matchplay with 2 balls too!

Never lost.

PS, Ignore my name, I do not own a 3 wood!
