I'm Going To Go Mental On The Golf Course This Afternoon

heronsghyll, perfect. In a nutshell what I (and others) need to do.

Going to do my best this afternoon to take what has said on here into consideration, except perhaps 'drinking more beer'. As a I am pretty much t-total and even a couple of beers wouldn't do me much good!!!

Spoff, you have the enthusiasts over reaction syndrome.
If you cant calm yourself a little when you play, then do what murph said, have a couple of drinks :D

I wrote recently about the two yard line I've been using. Once I've picked my club and had a practice swing, I'll put on my glove which is my trigger to focus on the shot and step over the imaginary line. Once I've done that I'm commited to the shot. I'll play it and see the outcome. Once I've come back over the line to my bag and taken my glove of its a trigger the shot has gone.

The simple fact is once you've hit it there's sod all you can do to change the outcome (other than hit a provosional or put another in play if its gone OB). Your handicap is there for a reason. Use it. If you played every hole as a par 5 you'd go round in 90. What you lose by not getting 5 on the par 5's and longer 4's you get back on the 3's and shorter 4's.

If you try and play this way, it is a great way of not trying to hit career shots to every hole and if you can course manage well (I sense not always a strong suit in your game) and get the ball into play rather than get annoyed and take risky shots on, you'll be back here later with tales of joy.

Good luck and go shoot the place down.

I'm liking the par 5 idea Homer.

Course management is something I am aware of and very aware I don't do enough of!

Just been looking at a card for todays course. 1st hole is an east par 4 297 yards. Usually I hit driver and duff the approach. If I take 7 iron from the tee it will leave me a full 8 iron to the green.

Last few times I have played my 8 iron has been the club.

Even the par 469 par 5 (SI 7) is a 7 iron, 2 8 irons and a wedge with three puts for a handicap par.

ah, this game is easy :D :D :D

Tiger uses the '10 step rule' out on the course.
Irrespective of whether the shot he's just hit was good, bad or indifferent he makes sure he has it completely out of his system within 10 paces of the spot he hit the ball!
So when you seem him hit an average shot, swear to himself or at Steve Williams, slam his club against the bag and walk off.....in 10 paces it's gone!

GOLF IS NOT A GAME OF PERFECT....I dont knwo who the author is but read it!! Ive read a few chapters and it stopped me launching clubs...maybe even helped get me down to 5!

I forgot everything that was suggested on here, got the driver out on the 1st hole, proceeded to top it and hack my way to a 9 on a very easy hole.

After 7 holes I was ready to push my clubs in the water and walk away.

Shot 62 on the front 9 for 10 points.

I went to the port-a-loo, swore to myself, made myself remember what was on this thread and went on to shot 49 on the back 9, 28 stableford points and the best 9 hole score I have ever had.

Left the woods in the back played sensibly, pretty much every shot was on the fairway.

I LOVE THIS GAME...

Next playing on Monday, going to do my best to carry on what I have learnt.

I totally changed my putting style on the 7th, rather than been bent over with bent arms I stood up with straight arms.

Only one 3 putt after that :D
