I'm An Idiot

I've hit the ball with my putter on my practice swing. Now that's damned annoying. An my (ex) playing partner TWICE (not ONCE but TWICE), in two separate games of foursomes, picked up the ball on the green without marking it. Once on the second extra hole.

I've tee'd off and started playing entirely the wrong hole to the one I was supposed to play (I blame poor signage :p)

The two sets of tees for two holes were kinda in the same area but the holes went in opposite directions and we picked wrong

Most recent act of stupidity was in the last comp where I was stretching to tap in an 18-odd inch putt without stepping on someone's line and missed it, costing me a point. :cautious: Another time I'm sure I recall picking the ball up thinking I'd blobbed a hole, then two holes later realising I had two shots on that one and could've still knocked it in for a point. Doh.

On a recent friendly round, my mate's drive had gone in the rough. We all spent an age looking for it. We were about to give up when I noticed the ball was literally one yard away from where he'd left his trolley. Not sure how he didn't see that when he got there.

Another mate recently teed up, took his practise swing and accidentally hit his ball with the toe of the club, sending it 90 degrees in front of him.

At Princes last week in the Kent Links Tour I played the wrong ball on one hole and teed off from the wrong tee on another - idiot!
Yeah but you've got an excuse Chris......old age

Don't tell Richart but I move my ball with my shoe every time we play for a curry. Free curry tastes so much better (y)

Yes, when I was at Stoke Rochford I clipped the ball with the toe of the club during a practice swing, went at a 90 degree angle and out of bounds. Lost the ball as well.

In a comp I teed off the yellows on the 1st tee. Not the dream start

Playing Princes with Chrisd, he took me to the wrong tee on a par 3 and made me lose my favourite battered ball, still not forgiven him for that :p did birdie the hole off the right tee tho:giggle:

Picked my ball out of a plugged lie in the semi at Woburn and Region3 told me off for doing it(still got the scars from the beating ;)), I thought that's what had been agreed in the beginning, but it wasn't, DOH

Couple of weeks ago I played a mushroom thinking it was my ball. That's about the dumbest thing I've done. EVER ! o_O

Not actually sure of how the rules deal with that as my ball was about 10ft in front. Assume it's classed as making a stoke.

Should've gone to Specsavers!

Genuinely interested to hear a ruling on this, I would actually assume there is no penalty as you should be free to smack wildlife with your clubs as much as you want.

Played today and hit the fairway on the 12th fairway. There were some leaves by the ball that I wanted to remove. Not a problem so parked the trolly up and was about to bend down and get rid of the leaves when a PP called my name. I looked up, and then without looking back down at where I was promptly gave the ball a kick with my right foot (a miracle as I was always left footed). Immediately called it even though it only moved by 6 inches or so but for the rest of the hole I was seething at my stupidity. Anyone else done anything equally as stupid?

If you're on winter rules, could you not have marked where your foot was and then replaced the ball??

Yep I agree....

Played in a medal, think it was the first of the season and had spent all winter playing gimmes which I loathe as they got longer and longer. Anyway I had a 10 foot putt which ended up 8" from the hole. I thought obvious gimme and knocked the ball 15 ft past the hole with my putter. My PPs literally screamed " what you doin". I knew as soon as I had hit it. Took me another two to knock it in from 15ft. My four became a six. But my head had gone. Probably cost me another half a dozen shots before I forgot about it.
