.......go and get fitted for your clubs. I've read alot of posts lately asking if it is necessary and I'd say a massive YES

As I'm getting more and more obsessed with new clubs I decided to go for a lesson and I've just got back from seeing Dave Forster at Philips Golf and he was FANTASTIC. Best £35 spent either way as it made me realise just how far out my current clubs are, massively.

I started off with all of the cameras and the Vector-Pro science centre and it seemed I was doing everything right, it was my clubs that were at fault. My distance was horrendous, my grouping horrific, spin pathetic and everything else a mess, yet I was hitting it clean and he commented on my only slight issue being weight transfer. The videos even showed that I have a very full swing, which I always thought was only 3/4 at best.

I tried alot of clubs including the TM RBZ's, Wilson Ci11's & FG2's, Cleveland CG16's, Ping I15's and Mizuno JPX800's. I've discounted the TM's and Mizuno's and something just wasn't right with them and my stats went haywire. Everything else was pinpoint and LONG (7i was constantly 165-170yds). I even started playing with fades and draws with a little luck. He tried me with a few shafts after checking my lie (2deg up), swing speed (90mph) and rotation and told me to go with a 85-90g stiff shaft.

Best thing he could have done for me though was let me try clubs that were simply too good for me, namely the higher end Mizunos and Ping S's.

I now know what I'm looking for thanks to Dave and IF I can wait and save a little more money, he will get my business as he was a huge help.

PLEASE GET FITTED IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, you might surprise yourself

so what was the verdict and clubs you are seeking now?
To my suprise I got on best with the Clevelands but the Ci11's were up there as well. Dave did say if I chose the Ci11's over the FG's then he wouldn't upgrade to the FG's in the future as there really isn't a massive difference unless your playing sub 10.

Good write up, but what clubs are you using now that are so bad for you?
I'm using Wilson Staff D-fy's and the shaft is too light and flexible for my swing speed

hmmm, what clubs is he after... i15's I reckon
It could be but it may come down to price and whether the extra cost would reap the rewards. I did try the G15's and like my current set the heads are huge compared to the others on test and the ball flight was REALLY high so I wasn't getting the distance with the accuracy.

Like many others in this day and age I'm after a bargain so looking on here and fleabay but given the 2deg up I'm not holding my breath. I set of shineys may be on the cards

Sell everything, even the missus and kids if you have them.

If you believe this you'll believe anything :D

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for custom fitting but...

Thought I'd follow this up by saying just how good my new Nike vr split cavity irons are. Yes I got the mint second hand but I stuck to everything that was suggested by the pro and it worked a treat. My iron play was solid today and was the only positive thing to come of today. My driver was 50/50, as was my supposed go-to 3 wood. I also had my connemara putter back in the bag which took some getting used to but the irons were awesome.

I was weary of just how thin the soles were but I never thanked one shot and only topped 2 which were due to standing upright.

I think I'm going to be very happy with these and would recommend everyone go and see a pro, even just to get the results.

kev, what club were you using to get 90mph swing speed?

Is that really fast ? Yesterday at golf live my 6 iron was 97mph. And completely agree with op. Have noticed a big difference with my irons after being custom fitted in January.

YES IT IS
97mph with a Driver would be said to be reasonably quick
With a 6 iron it would be very quick

Its just I know the place that kev got fitted, and they use flightscope, they give 2 readings, 1 is clubhead speed, 1 is ball speed, just asking incase figures mixed up and only remembered the biggest figure....??

Not saying not possible
Its just fairly brisk

I'm not a fast swinger by any means and my 6 iron was measured at 84mph - so 90's not hugely quick.
way to bring somebody down a peg or 2 haha

it is possible that I got these mixed up, but ball speed wasn't mentioned to my memory.

I just know on the screen, both figures are shown and obviously normally the driver is swung faster than a 6 iron, so..............was just wondering................what kind of swing speed u hav with your driver.............??
:D
Pleased you got sorted anyway, onwards and upwards...........
