.......go and get fitted for your clubs. I've read alot of posts lately asking if it is necessary and I'd say a massive YES
As I'm getting more and more obsessed with new clubs I decided to go for a lesson and I've just got back from seeing Dave Forster at Philips Golf and he was FANTASTIC. Best £35 spent either way as it made me realise just how far out my current clubs are, massively.
I started off with all of the cameras and the Vector-Pro science centre and it seemed I was doing everything right, it was my clubs that were at fault. My distance was horrendous, my grouping horrific, spin pathetic and everything else a mess, yet I was hitting it clean and he commented on my only slight issue being weight transfer. The videos even showed that I have a very full swing, which I always thought was only 3/4 at best.
I tried alot of clubs including the TM RBZ's, Wilson Ci11's & FG2's, Cleveland CG16's, Ping I15's and Mizuno JPX800's. I've discounted the TM's and Mizuno's and something just wasn't right with them and my stats went haywire. Everything else was pinpoint and LONG (7i was constantly 165-170yds). I even started playing with fades and draws with a little luck. He tried me with a few shafts after checking my lie (2deg up), swing speed (90mph) and rotation and told me to go with a 85-90g stiff shaft.
Best thing he could have done for me though was let me try clubs that were simply too good for me, namely the higher end Mizunos and Ping S's.
I now know what I'm looking for thanks to Dave and IF I can wait and save a little more money, he will get my business as he was a huge help.
PLEASE GET FITTED IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, you might surprise yourself
