If you could wake up one morning and be transported to any golf course in the world for a day's play, where would you choose ?

Would it be one of our own Open courses, rich in tradition and history ? St Andrews, the home of golf, is the most obvious.

Or would you choose one of those exclusive venues where getting a game is near to impossible for non-members. Augusta, Pine Valley, Pebble Beach ? Our own Loch Lomond ?

There was a photo of a course in New Zealand called Cape Kidnappers used in lots of different golf mags last year. Set on cliff tops, it looked amazing - that's where my vote would go...

Otherwise i'd go for Pinehurst No 2 or Augusta

I'd have to go for either Augusta or Pine Valley as both have almost mythical reputations and are nearly impossible to play on if you don't know a member

Running them close would be Cypress Point and Royal County Down

Pictures of Pebble Beach are pretty immense - but ultimately Augusta on the day before the Masters starts would take it....

In the UK Turnberry and Kingsbarm are pretty high up on the list and North Berwick is an outsider - fantastic course!

St Andrews Old Course every time for me. Nowhere else creates the same sense of awe any mystery. The thought of all the greats from Alan Robertson to Tiger Woods treading those great fairways sends a shiver down the spine.

I've never played the Old at St Andrews and would love to. But of all the courses I've played there's nothing quite like Pitlochry in Perthshire. The first five or so holes play uphill and at the top the views are astounding. Pheasants roam the fairways and there's even an iron cup attached to a chain in the stream from which you can drink your fill of fresh water. The closing hole over a pond in front of the clubouse is a great climax.
