Saw a sign as I walked off the first on a course I played yesterday. Hadn't seen one like it before and it made me chuckle.

Anyone seen anything similar?

I've not seen one like it before. I agree with the sentiment.

Not repairing pitchmarks is a bit like slow play. No one admits to doing it, but I see quite a few where ever I play. Can't understand the mindset where someone would think it acceptable to leave one.

Haven't seen the sign, but most experienced players I know do this as a matter of course.

Not seen a sign for that but it was told to me at Guildford in the 80s. Has stuck ever since and do it every round, especially yesterday at Pine Ridge

It is onething that does my head in though, green keepers do a great job at our course and some people can't even be arsed to take 10seconds to repair pitch marks :angry:

I was looking at a golf clubs web site a couple of months back (can't remember whose TBH), there was a pic of one particular green where the greenkeepers had placed a ball in every un-repaired pitch mark, the result was staggering.

If I can't find my own pitch mark (it happens) I'll make sure I repair at least one other before I leave the green.

I got shown by my pro on an "intro to golf" course how to repair pitch marks, I was also told to repair mine plus at least one other if you can find it. I find pitch repairing strangely satisfying.

Agree with the OP, Pitch marks are a real problem, im always repairing others although I do now make a few myself, Those who leave them should be strung up by their thumbs

Pitch marks become a real annoance during society and charity days. Non members at our course never seem to repair their marks/rake bunkers when on this sort of day. Our pro place a ball in every unrepaired pitch mark after a charity day in the summer and emailed it to the members. Shocked was not the word for it, Ill see if I can track down the picture. I just can't understand the laziness of some people. Its hardly a massive efoort to repair marks is it?. I always repair marks and at least 1 other when playing other courses.

I don't think you can lay that at the door specifically of societies and vistors. I've played enough top courses at the weekends as a members guest, to be amazed at how little some members care for their course

I try and repair tow or three on every green. Everyone "must" be aware of the basic etiquette of repairing them and to be honest at my club there are three main types of culprit. Sadly a lot of our seniors seem to think that because they have been membrs for so long they have some sort of immunity from repairing the course anymore. I'm not tarnishing all senior players before we start some sort of flame war but it is definitely a problem with the older members at my place.

The other culprits are the ladies. Again not saying every lady member is a problem but it is very clear following them sometimes and certainly wactching them around the course on other holes that very few even look for them let alone fix them. Perhaps the worse offenders though are the car park clan. Sadly we have an increasing number of Saturday morning guys who rush to the 1st tee, bearing in mind there are no booked times and so no rush to get there before your slot, and change before and after in the car park. Not only are they notoriously slow and difficult to get to speed up or let players through but they have no idea about etiquette. If they came into the clubhouse after it would be possible to mention it but they are straight in their cars and off after a game. Following them on a Saturday morning is like putting on a WW1 battlefield.

BUT ... surely if everybody repaired their own there shouldnt be 3 more to repair should there?? .. just kidding, i always get my own & will do a few more near me aswell .. played 9 hole scramble 2day , captaind drive in , there was a lot not repaired on the way round ..

I've never seen a sign but it's a good idea to prompt people at the start of the round.
I think more clubs should give away free pitch mark repairers with the card, that way people have no excuse...

A bit like speed bumps and cameras - if everybody did things properly there would be no need for them.
