Dear Forum members, can you help?

I am hosting a golf society day this weekend.
I have a number of "proper" prizes for LD, NP, Winner, best team etc

BUT

I also have some very "tacky" prizes which I want to give to people to raise a laugh at the prize giving.

Any ideas on stupid/funny/idiotic golf related categories or things I could award a stupid prize for?

Thanks for any input..

I find these 'booby' prizes go down like a damp squib.

Last corp day I was on they gave the highest scorer a kids set of plastic clubs- guy was ok about it at the time- pictures in papers and websites etc- but he was fuming as he tried his best and gets rewarded by being laughed at....publicly

Best I've seen if you really want a worsed player prize is give him a voucher for a lesson:clap:

Is the society full of actual golfers... or is it a lads weekend with golf thrown in? If it's a bit of fun for the lads where not all play golf, then a booby prize isn't so bad.

If it's a semi-serious to serious thing, maybe booby prizes aren't ideal, as it could leave a sour taste in a few mouths.

I do a yearly weekend away, with some lads who play golf once or twice a year as well as my regular PPs. The 'loser' prize was a trophy of a man hacking at a golf ball, was quite funny. But then again the loser was one of the guys who rarely plays and was expecting to lose. If he'd have lost by 1 shot and been a 10 handicapper, the prize might not have been so welcomed!

Unless it's a weekend away with mates, I find a lot of these society events don't tend to take too kindly to this type of prize. Most are regular golfers and any newbies or once a year players tend to be the ones winning these prizes which hardly seems right (although not alway I grant you). Personally I'd stick to more conventional prizes but each to their own

Balls lost , most balls in a bunker , most golf - all regular booby prizes that have been given in societies I have played in and everyone takes it in the spirit it's meant - if someone doesn't then society golf isn't for them

Come on chaps - lighten up, this is a game after all.

If the US team can give Tom a replica Ryder Cup Trophy, I'm sure the OP can get away with pretty much anything!

We also had separate smaller prizes for any visitors / strangers that didn't have an official h/c, after being caught out on a few occasions by visiting bandits .

Don't give a "last place" prize for the worst score, as they will already feel quite crap.

But a spot prize for most balls lost etc as suggested above could be fine

For anyone who posted previously - here's an update.

Thanks for your input - one and all. The day went ahead yesterday and it was a great success.

I took into account everything written/advice given and put together some funny prizes based on behaviour and events that happened during the day. Biggest whimp, learn the rules, best dressed, most balls lost etc as well as the normal ones.

I did have a booby prize for last place, but I knew the guy well and knew he could a) take it in the right spirit and b) would not get offended, however if it has been someone else I would have taken the advice on the forum and not awarded it.

Sincerely thanks to all who contributed to the post.
