I've been asked to join a team of people responsbile for the organisation of our Captains Charity Day in 2017.

Have received a financial summary of the last 5 years revenues and costs, a breakdown of what made good money and what didn't, and I want to come up with a few ideas for discussion at the kick-off meeting ina couple of weeks.

So apart from the following, what fundraising ideas have you come across at Charity Days that you have attended in the past? :

- Hole Sponsorship
- Raffle
- Tombola
- Silent Auction
- Par 3 challenge
- Voluntary donations for (free) refreshments at halfway house and Pimms Tent by 18th Green
- Putting Competition
- Pro-shop simulator challenge (long drive)

All ideas gratefully received

Thanks in advance

Depending on the facilities at the club our captains day this year consisted of 18 hole stroke play and a 18 hole around the clubhouse. It consisted of 6 shots on the driving range where we had to hit within designated markers. A 6 shot bunker challenge to a pin and a 6 hole putting challenge. They had prizes for each section and the points were then entered to the 18 hole stroke play tally so in total there were 6 winners. Went down very well.
Ive also played charity days where you pay £1.50 to the charity per lost ball. That can rack up a few quid extra

Okay, so here we go:

Closest the pin
Longest drive
Closest to the centre of the fairway
Closest to the pin after 2 shots (18th)
Get £X per person when they register - pays for all comp entries, raffle tickets and a donation. they also get a bottle of water and choccy bar (you can always sell more raffle tickets afterwards)
buy a Mulligan
Beat the pro on a par 3
Raffle
Putting competition on practise green
Silent Auction
Sweepstake for winning team or individual score
Main Auction - but not too many prizes and not too expensive unless you know your audience
Miss the green donation on a par 3
Change in the bucket at the bar
Guess the length of the Captains Drive sweepstake

Cant think of much more...

For a bit of a laugh get a duffer (high handicapper), preferably one who can hit it a long way on occasion to tee-off at the first. Do a guess the yardage. He might duff it 10 yards or hoof it 250. Who knows?

We get the green keeper to draw a white line down the centre of the 10th and you can enter a comp to get as close to it as possible (minimum length 150 yard)

How about the bucket challenge and see if anyone can chip into a bucket from 10 yards. Not actually as easy as it sounds.

Buy a gimme-putt on designated holes: £5 for <1m, £15 for 1 to 3m, £45 for >3m

Clubless hole challenge – throw, kick or roll the ball all the way to the hole (great way to get non-golfing family members involved)

Single club challenge – 3 holes, one club of player's choice

Speed-putting competition – five or six players arranged in a circle ~4m from the hole, first to hole their ball wins obstruction encouraged :)

Double-up bet to hit the green on a long par 3
nearest the pin wager vs the pro.

Fancy dress team competition. Play it as a scramble or bowmaker and get every team to dress up on a theme. Could use olympics countries, world cup, etc. or just any team identity with prizes for the best.

Simple to operate and good fun.

For things like our Christmas competition, or Captain's Day, we have "Hit the Green".

The 1st is a 230yd downhill par three. Someone runs a book and you back yourself to hit the green - with the odds varying depending on your handicap. At 19HC I get 7 to 1. The mids I think get 5:1 and the lows I think get 3:1 - but not sure what the actual bands are. You bet what you like and collect your winnings if your ball comes to rest on the green. Usually scoops a decent whack for the charity . Most people I heard of collecting on any one occasion was four. Usually it's only one or two (usually out of about 80 as they are mostly shotgun comps)

And like Homer's suggestion - Straightest Drive/Nearest the Middle. White line down middle of chosen fairway. Gives more people a chance than longest drive.
