...have joined the Mizuno club!

Had my fitting today and settled on a set of MP-54s 3-9 based on recommendation from my pro. Also tried JPX EZ Forged, 825 Pro and i25. Absolutely loved the MP-54s - felt so nice. I was a bit concerned about the head size being so small (coming from a set of G10s!) but after the first hit, wow; no concerns following that at all.

MP-54 3-9
Project X 5.0
2* Upright
Standard length & grips

I cannot WAIT until next week!

Interestingly the Swing DNA recommended KBS Tour S, Dynalite Gold XP S300 and Project X 5.0. The first two shafts are stiff and the Pro-X is a regular I've been told.

Dynalite gave me about 10 yards extra distance on average but dispersion wasn't as good. KBS and Project had nothing in them and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the two when swinging. Difference in numbers were negligible (0.4* difference in launch angle, 100 RPM difference on average spin rate, 2-3 yard difference in average length, 17 yard vs 23 yard dispersion).

Went with Pro-X in the end due to tighter dispersion.

:D

Had mine for three weeks now and they are going great. Like you I am still getting used to the size of them as they are a smidgen bigger than what I am used to. Feel great when spanked out of the middle.

Ah, the joys of new shineys!

Fairly eclectic mix of shafts thrown up.

PX is a traditionally a 'hitters' shaft, where KBS Tour is more a 'swinger style'. Explains the difference in flex a bit. XP S300 is a high launch/spin (and stiffish), where the other 2 are low/mid and flattish flight. Seems you are just in that 'in-between'. All reasonably traditional (heavyish) weight though.

MP54s are really rather nice - forgiving but not particularly chunky. Quite a change looking down at the PW I bet!

Absolutely! Since my swing has improved and become in-out I have actually found the offset on my G10s to be somewhat off putting. I'm really pleased that there is virtually no offset on the 54s and they look fantastic. Much thinner more compact.

If interested, my Swing DNA numbers were:

Head Speed: 82
Tempo: 5
Toe Down: 3
Kick Angle: 5
Release Factor: 5

I didn't know what to make of the shaft options really, not knowing very much about them, so I just hit balls and let the fitter comment on the numbers. We eliminated the Dynalite quite fast after he asked me whether I would take a sizeable distance gain in return for a consistency hit (I wouldn't) and then it just came down between the Pro-X and the KBS-T. Honestly couldn't tell the difference between the two so I just went with the one that gave me slightly less dispersion.

I quite like the non-stepped look of the Pro-X too so I suppose that will play a part in the 'feel' factor going forward, perhaps.

I joine dthe club on sunday, how long you waiting before you get them? Been told 2 weeks for mine however i am too bobbins for the MP54's so got the JPX's.

really wanted ping's but could not hit them for toffee :)

In an earlier thread you mentioned you were about to move Golf Club. Was the Mizuno reccomendation from the Pro at your new Club?

Hmmm, I have been looking at some 54s today... don't need them but do like the look of them and a lot of fuss has been made of them.

I am on a club embargo and I have moved my card away from my desk.... I cant be trusted with money and shinys....

No I managed to track down the pro who used to be at Bransford prior to the current pro, and who I had lessons with. He left and now works nearby in Worcester. Mark Dove. I haven't moved to my new club yet - my membership comes to an end towards the back of June.

Hope you enjoy them. Where did you get the fitting done

A friend of mine works for American Golf. Got a 20% discount on the clubs with a promo voucher too, so they cost £500 in the end. The pro shop at my current club leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately.

Been told I should have them by this time next week so fingers crossed! I tried out the i25s and they were what I was interested in originally before speaking with Mark, but the MP-54s won it hands down in the end for me at least.

Just curious, why is there no PW included in the set ?

I have a set of wedges (47, 52, 56 & 60) so didn't need the PW and decided to swap it for a 3 iron instead. I don't really use my driver at the moment, preferring to take irons off the tee, so a bit of extra distance there will be nice.

I know Mark very well. He is a great Bloke and a good coach.

I am very impressed with the work that has been carried out at Bransford recently, it is developing into a very nice Golf Course.

He is indeed - top notch chap!

It is to be fair getting better. The new owner of the hotel/course is clearly investing a bit of money. It would be nice to see them put some proper paths in places to avoid the flooding that happened over the Winter which made it difficult to get from hole to hole in some places.

There are a few things that have changed recently for no apparent reason that don't make any sense to me and I don't see why the changes were even made. For example they've just removed all of the really easy to see course markers that show 100/150/200/250 yards from the course, one on each side of the fairway. What have they been replaced with? Small plastic discs in the centre of the fairway that are recessed 2 inches into the ground and as a result can't be seen from anywhere on the fairway (or rough!) unless you're standing about 5 yards from them... Impossible to see judge a layup from further out now by using the markers as a aid for choosing a club - not everyone has a DMD!

Greens are in lovely condition to be fair after they worked on them after the Winter.
