I,ve only got a little one!

Had my putter cut down a few weeks back, didnt ask for a specific lenght, I just gripped it where it felt good and my pro took it down to that length, anyway, just measured it out of interest and its only 31 inches! is that abnormal?

Im 6'2 and have a 33.5 inch putter so wont really say its that weird. If it feels good in your hands then im sure you will putt great with it

I'd love to cut my putter down a touch but dont want to waste a shaft if it turns out to give no advantage, gripping down isnt the same for me.

Does it actually matter how long it is, surely you just hold it where its comfortable and thats that. Or do people hold it at different heights dependent on the putts length etc?

I really didnt like gripping down and there being loads of grip above my hands, it just didnt feel at all stable! since I've had it cut down and slapped a 2thumb grip on it though its like a magic wand!.......sort of!!

I wouldnt have thought so as you can buy putters with a variety of lengths in their range.

Yes but the balance is adjusted slightly to take into account the length of the shaft. I am sure this is the case with mizuno berti putters. I wanted one with 34 inch shaft, and the shop only had a 35 inch one. Suggested to the pro it was cut down, but he said it would ruin the putter.

Have been told by a couple of pros, as i wanted to get my old ping putter cut down for my daughter. Still went ahead as she is a beginner and wouldn't notice. Wouldn't recommend you did it to a Scotty or one of the more expensive putters without checking first. I am no expert, just passing on what i was told, and it may be a load of old cods.

I've had my old Anser cut from 35 to 34 inches. Much more over the ball now and with a shiny new Ping grip on it feels so good. That'sll be 36+ putts tomorrow no doubt but I am oozing confidence with it

Keep that confident feeling, and you are over half way to holing more putts.

I use a 2 thumb grip as a normal one.

I brought a belly putter at 43 inches and use it as normal putter.

I don't have a massive ego.

If you have your putter cut down and dont feel any advantage (you will) You just ask your pro to extend it again.
He'll remove the grip, put a plug in and replace the grip. It will feel the same as before and shouldn't cost you any more than a fiver

Every putter i've bought (and there have been a few over the years) i've had cut down to 32 inches. But then again as I am only 5ft 7" anything longer than 32 inches feels like a broom handle anyway

A lot of putters with different lengths of shaft have a different head-weight too. A longer shaft (35") will have a slightly lighter (10-15g) head than a shorter (33") head.
Odyssey do it. A 35" No.5 has a head weight of 335g (ish) going to 345g for the 34" and 355g for the 33".

I am intrigued now, I certainly preferred it when I got a thicker grip fitted, now I want to try a shorter one as I always hold the grip lower than I should.
