I recently played at Luton Hoo and saw for the first time an iphone with a golf GPS application loaded. I must say I was impressed. My only problem is that I dont have an iphone.
I currently have a car sat nav, a sonnocadie (which is brilliant btw) a moby and a camera.
Now, am I right in thinking that an iphone could do the job of all 4 of these devices?
And, am I right in thinking there's a new iphone 4G coming out soon?

Bob,

Yes, that is correct. The new iPhone should be out in the summer, and expecting better battery, a camera with flash (although not sure if they are beefing up the megapixles from 2mb), forward facing camera for video conferencing, amongst others.

And it will do all of those jobs.

Problem is battery life, Bob.

Not seen the TomTom working on an iPhone, think it is about £70.

Camera is not great on the iPhone compared to other camera phones either.

The battery life when using a gps is terrible your lucky to get 18 holes out of it, was looking at a battery booster last night which your phone fits into dont think it makes the phone much bigger it was on a USA website and was $70.

Apart from that i think they are good phones ,i use the Golfshot app and it is very accurate, the same as a Skycaddie.

The battery in the new one due out in Summer is supposed to be 16% bigger, so should last a whole day!!! ;)

Seriously, battery life is my major gripe with mine, and hopefully they wil have sorted it out for the 4G.

Bob - indeed, my iPhone does all of those things as well as allowing me to access the forum whenever I wish. I use mycaddie pro, and battery life isn't an issue for me.

Bob, my Aye Fone is my 15 in 1 but the big worry is in the olden days if you lost your diary you didn't also loose you camera, maps, records, pictures, fone book and the like. If I loose this I am buggered.

That's just what Jan said (in not so many words) :)

But I have a plan.

Remember at school in the winter you had a pair of gloves.
They were tied together with string that went up your sleeve, round behind your neck and down the other sleeve.
In theory it should work if the iphone has a loop to fasten the string to.
I've looked further into this and it turns out the 3G only has a 3m pixel camera. My present phone has a 5m so great for teaching golf.
Although I understand the new 4G will have a 5m pixel cam on it, how expensive is it going to be

Jan said I can get one when I've sold my present LG Viewty, sonnocadie, 10m pixel camera, tom tom and 2 ipods :(

Did I really say that  (forgive me please)

I've been giving it some thought. You don't listen to your ipod very often, you don't drive your car that far, it's quiet rare that you manage 18 holes, so all in all battery life shouldn't be a problem. :p

If you found the white one a bit girly, I could probably relieve you of it, after you had test driven it of course. ;) ;)

There is always a solution to every dilemma.

As those who played with me at Luton Hoo can testify, I can easily manage 18 holes and carry a full bag without toilet, a trolley or a rest half way round.
There's lots on here who cant say that.

I choose not to play my 9 hole course twice as it gets a bit boring. Once around is enough for me.

It wasn't meant as an insult. Sorry if it came out that way.

I used to belong to a 9 holer, and if you went round too many times you got dizzy. 36 hole club champs was torture.
