After about 15 years at a big resort course where the pro shop is sanitized with gleaming everything and nothing older than 6 months, it was a joy to go to another club where the shop not only had new clubs, but bags full of second hand clubs of all descriptions that you could take out for a few holes before buying.

The pro had time to chat and seemed interested in helping, the prices were reasonable and not 'resort inflated'.

The workshop door was open revealing clubs in various stages of repair or build. The shop was cramped but it was a cozy cramped if that makes sense, I could have spent ages there breathing in the smells and atmosphere, touching the clubs and talking golf with a professional who knew his stuff and seemed genuine.

This is maybe par for the course -see what I did- at your club but it was a breath of fresh air for me and I'll no doubt be spending my hard earned supporting my local pro now as opposed to saving a few quid online.

That sums up the pro shop at mine, quite small new and old gear and will chat with you for ages plus get the odd tip. Love it, I give him as much of my cash as I can and he will nearly always price match if he can.

Have you moved onto pastures new?

It's like the pro shop at rowallan castle, big comfy leather armchair in it where you can sit down for a chit chat and poss grab a free cuppa, whilst discussing where it all went right (but most probably wrong).

Don't do that at inthecup's course you'll get frostbite from the reception alone!

yes, had enough of the poor conditions at the resort. Now at Whitecraigs, only played there once but its still a good challenge, nice views and a really nice par 3 course ideal for practicing the short game.

Fantastic, when you giving me a game?

Nice track.

I agree, the old pro shops were great, remember going in them with my dad. A set up like that would be more likely to get my support. Trouble is I have not seen it since I took up the game 5 or 6 years ago. Most pro shops seem to be like a mini American Golf, all sanitised off the rack gear, no second hand kit 'cluttering' up the place. Prices are sky high and there is no chatting, free tips or recommendations.

I too like the old pro shop style, cannot beat a friendly welcome. The slightly dingy overcluttered look may put some off but to others its like walking into a mini golf haven!
