Not wanting to be deliberately controversial but, on the three year PGA course, how much time is spent learning to teach/studying swing mechanics (etc) compared to learning accountancy and club maintenance (etc)?
Bob will be able to tell you better than me but I think level 1,2, & 3 are mostly teaching and swing mechanics. Level 4 & 5 are optional and involve more along those lines of club management, course maintenance and such like.
There are/were 8 subjects when I did my training and you had to pass every one to get the degree.
The course changes every couple of years to keep up with changing technology and needs of clubs.
For example, I.T. has become more involved as has sports science and gym work.
Business studies, employment laws, VAT etc is still a large part of the course as is coaching, biomechanics, anatomy, swing mechanics and playing.
On a lesser scale are rules and personal promotion.
Club repairs, workshop, club building, custom fitting and club technology are still important but all in all it's a fairly well balanced course that will continue to evolve.
