Had our Doubles KO today. CVG and myself against 2 young whippersnappers off 11 and 13.
Well, bearing in mind that a couple of weeks ago we went round in +1 between us, we played such shite you wouldn't believe it. They had some luck. On the 4th, one of them hit the flag and stopped dead by the hole while the other one rammed the ball at the hole so hard it hit the back of the hole, jumped a foot in the air and dropped in.
We won the 5th with a par, we lost the 8th and 9th to birdies and were 6 down at the turn.
Oh and by the way, we had Ryder Cup style rain from the 4th so were drenched. It came down harder still as we finished the 9th so we took refuge in the clubhouse. It was fairly obvious that..
A. We were going to lose heavily
B. It wasn't going to stop raining and
C. Conceding the match was the sensible thing to do.

I hate Matchplay.........

Bad luck, put it down to a bad day at the office.
We have two single matchplays at our club this year, and they start the weekend.
Im really looking forward to the challenge, might not last long but im up for the battle.

Getting quite excited about matchplay myself. The draw is due out soon for the Volvo event and Hawkeye and I are part of Team GM and so I can't wait to see who and where we are playing. The only downside is he isn't playing as well as he was a month ago and I am just my usual inconsitent rubbish so anything could happen

I love matchplay. Played last years Rabbits captain in a mathch yesterday and I was 6 up after 8 . He rallied a little but I still closed it out 5&3.

Here's to the next round. :)

Really looking forward to the volvo draw myself now. Matchplay never used to be a favourite of mine because of my total focus on my gross score but I'm learning to play my opponent and not the course and as a result am winning more matches and enjoying it more. I'm not worried about my form, I wasn't great on Tuesday but worked out I would have scored 35 points with 3 blobs thanks to some quite spectacular shots on the back nine so it's not a million miles away.

Roll on the draw and some success for Team GM

Matchplay is great as it is head to head . It is never good to lose but you learn about pressure quickly and have to deal with it if you are to win.Sometimes your opponent plays superb golf or has some luck - you will at some stage if you play enough.

My son asked me to partner him in the Golf Monthly sponsored event this year and I am looking forward to that. We both entered the singles too - what chance us getting drawn against each other ?

Give me a nod when that's about to happen will you? Been playing plenty long enough - gotta be my turn for some soon.

I like Matchplay !!

Got my Healey Cup to defend this year......and have drawn the lad I beat in the final last year to play in the 1st Rd this year...... :)
Mind you, he's off 4, and will be gunning for revenge !!

Got the Volvo event with HRC99 to look forward to too.......

And the Club Main knockout event to squeeze in somewhere.....

Bring it on !!

Last saturday we lost the 7 days pairs, after being 3 down we got it back to all square going up the last and lost it.
The next day we lost 4&3 on our 2nd course.

On Wednesday lost the 5day pairs, was 3 up at the turn they got it back to all sqaure with a hole in one and won it on the last.

Im still in both the single knockouts but on wednesday afternoon i too hated matchplay.

You should have my life, think I'm overdosing on matchplay, I started off with the usual 2 season long comps at my club, a single and a pairs. I then qualified for 2 more (a gross and a net) so thats 4 comps at my club. towards the end of the winter season I was getting excited so entered the Volvo pairs and for some reason the singles so got that to look forward to but because there was a while until it started, so myself and a mate entered the Northern Matchplay pairs which starts as a 36 holer and we are playing our second round match on Monday. Also due to me winning our winter league I was asked to play in the "Mail on Sunday" team comp of which we are now in th 6th round, Then out of the blue I got asked to fill in as 6th man for our league team and have played 3 games for them (although after my last performance I'm probably back down the pecking order), and finally to cap it off another mate has just informed me that he has re-entered us into the matchplay championships which we took part in last year.
In summary thats 10 different Matchplay comps I have played or due to play in this year. I can't remember what the yellow tee box looks like

The draw for the Volvo comes out soon. Pretty soon after that, I'll be joining imurg with not being impressed with matchplay. Heck, I've got a tart of a partner. Better off with medal, surely.
