Journeyman Pro
Just back from the range and what I saw and heard very much shocked me!!
I was in my bay hitting balls and a young lad (gonna guess at 17ish) and his mam move to the bay next to me. Then one of the pro's came out to have a look at the lad hitting his driver. Out comes a Taylormade R11 (well was one of the white headed ones) and BANG! First ball straight into the partition between us.
I turned around, as you do, and thought nothing of it (maybe nerves hitting balls in front of the pro). Next ball, BANG! Partition again, BANG! and again and again. He then hit one out onto the range but not before hitting the ground first and topping it about 80 yards.
The mother then turns to the pro and says "what do you think?". The pro replies "no I definitely dont think you need a stiff shaft". WTF!!!!!!!!
This lad defintely shouldn't of been thinking about shaft stiffness. The pro did ask the mother if she had thought about lessons for her son but she said "well we've thought about it but we weren't too sure if he needed them".
Now Im not picking on the lad but the pro should of been pushing lessons really but you know what he said. "You could probably do with more loft". Are you kidding me????
He then went into the shop and came back with 2 or 3 drivers for the lad to try which he hit with much the same effect then they walked out the range probably to buy one.
I honestly couldn't believe what was happening
