Hybrids

Good thread........hybrids are the business.
As per my signature, I now use two Hybrids and I don’t know what I would do without them. I’m not a strong hitter of the ball, and for example, the 11th and 12th at Dunbar, both are long 450 460 yard par fours. Depending on the wind, my two hybrids fit the second shot bill perfectly. At Royal Musselburgh there are a few holes that fit the bill also. Long par threes............
I have a standard 909H 21 degree and another 909H 21 degree fitted with my old V steel 5 wood shaft............it is a weapon.
As I said, I used a 5 wood before but that goes a little too high, not as good out the rough and it’s not as controllable as my hybrids. I very rarely use my 3 wood and I’m now waiting on another, this time 15 degree 909, coming from e-bay. I’m going to pull my old V steel 3 wood shaft and fit that into the 909 head. That’s how much I like them.
It might not work but I’ll give it a go and the Titleist 909H is the dogs nads for me. Tons of them on e-bay.

I'm in 2 minds, I never seem to hit my hybrid right, usually only using it for a little dink low out of the rough

Keep considering adding a 5 wood and a 23/24 hybrid and ditching my 4 iron and 20 hybrid

I had a Taylor Made Burner 3# hybrid with stiff shaft and didn't get on with it at all, used to top most of my shots or hook them miles left into trouble. Recently got a Cobra Baffler 19 degree with a regular shaft and love it. Now thinking about getting a 23/24 degree Titleist 910H

I'm a fan, now that I've finally gotten to grips with it, used to try to hit it to hard now just a gentle tap sends it towards 200, better out of light rough when it's popped up but still used on any long par 4 or any par 4 I've hit the drive poorly off the tee. Mines the taylormade rescue and its done that on many occasions!

I have a 3 and 4 hybrid took me a while to get used to them but I'm hitting the 4 pretty well now but dont use the three that often. I also carry a 5 wood.

I don't class myself as a low handicap.

I tend to switch between a 2 iron and a 17deg hybrid, and we are just coming to the time of year i change back to the 2 iron. Rough is getting thicker by the day and soon you won't be able to hit driver on some holes.

Back to the hybrid though, i can't fault it tbh, have though about replacing the 3 iron with one but they do diff things so, not bothered , esp since the change to the JPX pro irons.

I have a Wilson 21 degree with a proforce V2 stiff shaft and play off 5. Picked it up 2nd hand for £45 and can hit it about 215 yds. Haven't carried a 3 iron since getting this and as with all graphite shafted clubs I think it is the shaft that makes the difference Find a hybrid with a shaft that suits your swing and you will reap the benefits

I'm off 6 and I have one
A 20 degree Anser taht is one of my "go to" clubs
I've tried many hybrids and I'll hook most of them - many are draw bias even if they don't appear to be
For some reason I can hit the Anser straight....
Tried the 17 degree version and it sucked! Couldn't get the ball to fly..

I like the anser driver, I'm definitely in the market for a hybrid, mine was a freebie, I'll certainly be trying the anser and g25 range I think they look smashing

there are some interesting elements to hybrids, as many threads illustrate (3 woods and wedges suffer the same issues)

most people get them, or it, expecting it to resolve an issue or weakness they have rather than just using them as a club.

this tends to result in them working great on the range - and failing miserably on the course!

if they are only used when the lie looks a little ropey for the 4 iron, or when you need a little more carry than your 3 iron gives etc the poor hybrid's on a hiding before it starts!

even the use of language such as 'they have to be hit like an iron not a fairway wood' adds to the mystique!

it's taken me 3 years to get comfortable with the things; to really believe that the club will do the work without me working hard! this is tough with a club that's compact enough to be given a 'good swish' = which is the last thing it needs to do it's job properly.

it can work better than a long iron from light rough/1st cut etc, but you still have a put a good swing on it - it's not a miracle worker.

I am finally starting to really appreciate the capabilities of these clubs - not from the rough, but as a club for X yards just as all the others.

calling them a rescue club is just silly. if your in trouble, you are in trouble. don't think this club will preform miracles.

if you say, ''I cant hit hybrids'', you need more practice.
