Evening all.....
Whats the story with these Hybrids/rescues.
Iv only got it 3 months but i cant hit it for toffee......
I can hit my 4I off the tee, fairway or rough but put a rescue in front of me and forget about it.....Imseriously thinking of either adding a wedge to my setup or getting the relevant 3 Iron for my set......

One other thing that bugs me.....If the so called modern GI long Irons are easier to hit than before then is there actually a need for them to be replaced or is it all just marketing.

Hybrids are definately the way golf is going i can see 3+4 irons being replaced more and more by ameteur golfers.I have struggled with mine as well recently, however a little time practicing i have realised i get a better strike when i hit down on the ball very slightly and it seems to have worked.

I play mine both ways (sweeping and hitting down) depending on what I want to do with it, stick with it the are very versatile clubs but I still have 3 and 4 iron the hybrid is 17*.

I play mine like an iron and take a reasonable divot. They are great clubs for playing out of the rough, and very forgiving. I have a 16 Degree hybrid which is great for hitting into the wind on our two long par 3's

I've got a 19* hybrid that replaced my 3 iron and after a good session on the range experimenting with ball positions and a few very slight swing thoughts I managed to hit it quite well.
Give it a go and see how you get on. :)

Oh and while your there get yourself that cobra driver you've been looking for!! :D

Thanks for the repiles chaps.....
Im sure its just something simple.....In fairness if i can hit long Irons and also 3 and 54 woods then it has to be a ball position or something trivial thats not making me get on with this thing.

LTP.......You'll be glad to here the deposit is place on the said item......10.5 deg regular

I've got a 3 hybrid and whilst I don't hit perfect shots with it every time, the results are 10 times better than I would achieve if I tried hitting the equivalent 3 iron. Even the bad ones!!
Out of light rough, off the fairway, off the tee on longer par 3's or as a "safety" shot on a tight driving hole.
Off the tee I just tee it up ever so slightly (as if to replicate a nice fluffy lie on the fairway) and try to sweep it away like a wood.
Off the fairway I will try to hit into the back of it as I would do an iron, and expect to take a slight divot.
I wouldn't be without mine.
Would I ever carry a 3 iron?
Nope
:D

The day I got mine I was hitting them like a god, for the nest 3 months I could not hit them for toffee but have found my way with them and they are now the best part of my game.

Last week I drove short then hit my 19* about 240 and hit the green. I have even made it my profile pic cos I love them so much.

Have a few range sessons with them, see if you can find you way. For me its a long sweeping take away with the ball about center of my stance. In these thick conditions they are nicer than an iron.

Problems with hybrids are like problems with any other club that golfers have trouble with.....it's in your head.

I have been using hybrids a while now and last week I had a go with long irons and miss-hit frequently but I stuck with it and found myself hitting them as well as I ever did, then the next time a hybrid came out the bag I messed up a few times with it initially.

Stick with it and dont think of it as a hybrid...it's just another golf club in your bag that serves a purpose.

I tend to sweep it off the tees and play it more like an iron off the fairway and in the light rough. I did find I needed to move it fractionally back in my stance compared to where I'd have played a 3 or 4 iron from but that might be more to do with my unique take on the golf swing rather than anything else

I think this is what has me baffled Homer.......
I sweep my woods ..No problems here......I dont take divots with them.......
My long Irons i play between my heel and my shirt buttons.....No problems there either....

But from what iv read about the rescues there supposed to be played like you are weilding a 7I.....

To be honest i dont seem to be able to get the ball airborne with them........It must be a ball position issue......Ill just have to get some range time in with them.

I hate to agree, considering we play off the same h'cap..

My shed is full of long irons and hybrid clubs.

It's a lottery which I'll take out and if they'll be on form.

I can hit my Macgregor 565 3 iron pretty well and my Wilson Staff fybrid sweetly too. My Cally X-18 3 iron and/or Callaway heavenwood are uber-crap.

I bought one last year. Cally Heavenwood 20 degree. Hit it great on the range off a mat but took a while to get used to it off turf. I slowed down and concentrated on making a solid hit and once I'd started hitting it Ok it's been fine.

Could be that even if it started as a technical thing it's got into your head and is now a mental/confidence thing too.

If you think it is a club which it will be useful to you to be able to use (think about holes on your course where you might need it) it might be worth having a lesson. That would sort any technical issues and if the pro gets you hitting it well it will also get you feeling confident and deal with any mental issues.

But from what iv read about the rescues there supposed to be played like you are weilding a 7I.....

I think they mean hit it with the tempo and effort of a 7I, don't try and force it.

Position should be a fraction ( and I mean 'ickle bit' ) nearer the centre of your stance than the equivalent iron would be.

Then just relax, normal swing, and Fanny's your uncle's sister.

There have been a number of theories about ball placement with a hybrid/rescue club.

Mine has been on form recently; I play it like a 5 iron, which is almost the same as a 7 iron. :)
