Hybrid impulse buy leads to disappointment

Got to love some impulse purchases though. I've just made one, with no idea how it is going to perform...I'm excited by the prospect!

The AG shop in Gosforth, Newcastle, has a second hand section. Good for drivers and hybrids, less so for irons. I pop in whenever I pass and have made a number of impulse buys. Most are winners but every so often it is a bad un. The thing to do is recognise it early, sell it on Ebay and move on. Impulse buys are fun and if not expensive then low risk. Buying new clubs impulsively can be a little more costly.

Don't I know it in this case. Consider that the I25 with standard shaft is £149 most places... and this was a pro shop.
Happy to admit mistake made, not so happy when the wife finds out...

Just noticed that either I or the wife have only gone and bloody scratched the paint on the shaft :o, going to go out on a limb and say it was me as it's right at the height of the wardrobe door where my clubs sit that aren't in my bag... Could blame the wee man but that would be unfair.
Just a cosmetic blemish though rest of it is in decent nick still.

Buyers remorse. Only secondary to the "never again" remorse of that one beer too many hangover. Have you tried it at a range? Surely if you can get it to perform then what's to lose? If not get it on ebay

I'm with you, if I'd bought a "new" club from a pro and discovered it's a (albeit mildly) used one from ebay I'd be having a word with the pro too

I suspect you'll get your money back if he has any sense

I've had a few ping hybrids & the only one I really liked was the G10. Didn't like the shape of the G15 & couldn't get on with the i15.

Can't see why a pro would buy a club off ebay.

got g5 and g15 hybrids never felt happy with either, look wrong to my eye! got an old maxfli hybrid from my first ever set of clubs and its great!

Then you might be surprised. I discussed this with the person in question this morning. He, and other local area pros are using ebay and other internet sources to buy stuff to suppliment sales. To quote the man himself 'My sales in the new stuff has taken a battering the last few years, margin on items from suppliers are dropping year on year with new releases every 6 momths. I will use any source I can to get stuff in to prop up my sales, most of it goes in the 2nd hand rack and thats where I am making most money just now.'

So as a business model, not actually that hard to believe put in to context as he has. I had no idea that times were that tough as its always a very well presented and maintaoned shop attached to what I would decribe as a fairly affluent club.

If that club was sold as new then you have been sold a "pup" and should ask for your money back.
Even if it has never been hit, Ping do not offer that shaft as standard or as an upgrade so it has probably been done by someone in their shed with no idea what they're doing. As someone else stated, that shaft is very light for a hybrid and I suspect they have fitted a driver shaft into it somehow, which has a narrower tip. Hybrid shafts normally have a "H" or "Hyb" next to the weight and flex, like in the link below, which is for the only hybrid shaft I can find on their website.
