How to shape your shots.... the Kaymer way

I don't wonder at all Imurg, I just think it's funny the amount of people that are so quick to criticise yet never look at themselves and what they've posted.... maybe it's cabin fever.... maybe not.

I have an appetite for knowledge... and I'm seriously NOT going to apologise for that.

So you'll just slag off someone for giving an opinion...
One vid to watch, one "this is what I've done" and one piece of advise that I wouldn't know is right or wrong - just because someone "hacks" around off 16 doesn't mean what they have to say is irrelevent..

And some Golfers suffer from the idea that just because something's always been a certain way that it's wrong

Does it actually matter what method of shot shaping someone uses?

Surely what is more important is whether or not their method works for them.

Not at all. If the ball goes where you want it to you could stand on your head and swing. What if it doesn't go where you want it to... for example.. onto the wrong fairway? ... and then you start using that poor shot as instruction?

That video seemed just to demonstrate how he does it.
Not a demonstation of accuracy, ie, aiming for a certain point and bringing the ball around to that point.

I agree. He said he was going to shape the ball in different directions and he did so. He did however say fade and draw when (in theory) he should have said slice and hook as that's what the shot shapes actually were.

I just liked the vid.. it was both interesting AND funny, that's why I posted it... it's to make conversation on a golf internet forum, I didn't realise that it was going to be a prompt for a character assassination ;)

I just asked a simple question to carry along the debate.

I don't really know how I hit a draw, it's just the shape of shot I've always hit naturally and as such have no problem doing it.
In order to fade the ball I aim my body left and the clubface at the target, tee the ball up lower, speed up my body turn and don't release my hands as early. Christ knows how that fits in with the manuals but it generally works for me.

A good video you posted and it was interesting to see Mr. Kaymer hooking and slicing for fun.

If the video did not exaggerate the shot in any way how would amateurs differentiate between shots with tails and manufactured draws/fades.

As it happens he highlighted the extremity of what can be produced and it looked like it.

A video to be taken more as a demonstration than instructional.

Ash!!

No worries Gil  I'm only answering for the same reason :D

without taking the thread too far off topic....admitting you don't know how you hit a draw when you play off 6 would concern me personally...... LOLOLOL
but that's for you to decide if you're interested or not. If it doesn't affect your game and you're HAPPY then clearly it's not a bother. :)

I understand that it's something to do with my angles etc, I used to have an incredibly flat swing and then flipped my hands over at impact, and then with lessons have gotten a good swing plane but retained the natural draw.
I don't really mind the draw as both courses I've had membership at are more suited to right to left shots, with just the occasional fade required.

Anyway, how can he be expected to perform at his best while that dobber is spouting a load of pish beside him wearing candyfloss trousers - what a tit!

I think he's played with Poulter a few times so should be used to daft gear. And with Manassero and Garcia, so used to LOUD too!

Thanks JO. Made me chuckle. Certainly made sure he made it bend! Also shows that what even top Pros think they are doing is not always the case. Oh, and his feet/shoulders don't seem to be set much different for the 2 shots (probably because he can actually change the swing-path while swinging imo).
