My sister-in-law is a head forester and they have a real tree each year. Last year my brother had to cut three feet from the top & two feet from the bottom to get it to fit in their living room. This year, he's taking a big marked stick with him to make sure she gets one the right size.
Funny you mention that, reminds me of something from my childhood.
A mate of my dads was a gas-man, he went out camping with the lads and ended up pissed as handcart. They were camping/fishing near an xmas tree farm. He had a lightbulb moment and robbed a christmas tree from someones farm. Slept his drunkeness off in his van for the next 12 hours or so and then turned up at our house with a 30ft xmas tree hanging out the back of his van. I was only 6 at the time but remember it like it happened this morning.
