How safe is your golf club.

Yes the club chairmans quote re " This is a win win situation for us, the developer and the town as it strives to meet its housing needs", was taken from the Darlington and Stockton times. Members voted 221-36 in favour to back the plan which doesn't seem a lot of members

I think the way our Club is heading we'd be happy with 257 members, we've dropped from 350 4 years ago to 240 at the moment, I would be gutted but not to suprised if in another 5 years we were closed or on the verge of closing, mostly down to recession and un-employment, Club is 103 Years old, but we are inundated with courses within half an hour and something is going to have to give, selfish, but I would rather it was another club and we gained their members.

Golf Club meetings are usually poorly attended in my experience.
It seems easier to moan and groan in the car park or on the course.
Dewsweper

I have not got any idea how the vote was cast re hand vote or postal, and I thought the membership was low but having read a post further on they would be happy with the numbers quoted (221-36) at there club as they are also struggling for membership. 😟
Re Norwood, as far as I am aware we are as a safe as houses. I heard a month or so ago that a couple of folk have there eye on wanting to buy the course, But I was told that in the car park so that maybe baloney.

Similar situation with the Royal Norwich merger 85% of members in agreement

Paul,
Is that 240 FULL Members
Or
240 Total membership
????

We currently have approx 620 ( all categories ) members
When I joined about 6-7 years ago it was over 700

But the scenario you describe above is very similar for Newcastle area too, Infact most of the Northumberland county area
Plenty golf courses, most very average and much of a muchness
Numbers in decline at most
With a few doing ok

In the time I've been at my club, it's only the last 2 years we haven't made a loss on the balance sheet

Times are hard for golf, and some courses local to me, do indeed sit on real prime building ( housing ) land

Not a member of a club, but a little 9 hole track I play quite a bit, Harborne Church Farm, is quite safe. As far as I know the Church which is situated down the left hand side of the second fairway owns the land and has done for absolutely god knows how long!

I believe that's full members mate, that's as at last Saturday

Smiffy's only got the hump because he always plays like a plonker at Royal Ascot. No wait that's most courses. However he'll be pleased to know that as we're on crown and and have an agreement from Her Majesty regarding the continued use for the next 89 years we should be ok. Membership is up so it can't be too bad but thanks for the concern Smiffy

North Worcestershire is due close in May, so this winter will be the last. It's being sold for housing and the shareholding members have voted to take the money rather than re-locate.

I would say mine is very safe , not owned by any group, members club, membership on the up , course in great shape and getting better with all the changes that have and are getting done, plus it will 200 years old in 2017.

safe as houses,

actually it's safer than that at present. due to the course being on flood plain, there is unlikely to be any houses on the land, finances are in a good state, so much so that the membership fee is coming down by 5% next year.
