How often do you practise?

As we are coming out of the winter and into the new season I was just wondering how often people are putting in some practise time.

I only started playing socially last year and have decided to take it a lot more seriously (by this I mean just actually playing more often/joining a club etc) this year so have been putting in quite a lot of time, at least 2 range sessions a week and probably a lesson every 2-3 weeks since the turn of the year. I have found though that I hit the ball better when I only get 50 balls as opposed to 100 as I don't feel I have to rush through the balls and therefore can go through the swing thoughts in a bit more detail.

For me the practise is definately paying off and hoping to carry this on to build a consistent swing. Just need the clocks to change so I can start getting in 9 holes after work during the week then I won't go to the range as often.

What does everyone else do?

I practice a few times a week during my lunch breaks and then play a fair amount over the summer.

Definitely correct about the 50balls over 100. There is not a chance you can focus and take 100 balls seriously.

Personally I get bored after about 30balls

Being 75% retired & living 5 minutes from the range & my course there are times when I I go to the range every day I don't play. I find that 50 balls is about right, although sometimes I have 75. I try to line up & prepare for every shot as I would on the course & have a break after every few shots. I'm spending more time on wedge play & distance control now & this is paying off, I feel much more confident on the short ones now.

Practice once a week and play once a week (twice if I'm lucky). I probably wouldn't practice any more often but I would play as often as I could

A lot.

I worked out a long time ago that i am not a natural, so the more lessons ans practice i do the better i get. I really have to work on my game. These past few months it's been impossible to go to the range as its been too wet with all the rain, and my golf has suffered.

I don't - just bores me so look to play as much as possible and get my practise that way. Even if it's a round on my own or 9 holes - find that a lot more productive

I practiced once in 2002 but after 10 minutes I was bored to tears and gave up.

Similarly I hate going into the nets as that's even more boring and tells me nothing whatsoever.

I'm like Phil and prefer to play the course when I have the time. It's probably why my handicap has frozen at 12 this past 5 years.

Most years around about now I tell myself that I will go and practice, but when I have the time available the lure of a bit of craic with my mates is too strong and I go and play a game instead.

I don't really do dedicated practice sessions hitting balls or chipping and putting. I have tried but get bored after about 10mins. I would rather just go and play which I guess is kind of practice but not working on anything specific.

Someone else's hcap which will be under scrutiny in May 😜

Not nearly often enough

I live too far from the golf course to just drop by after work for an hour or two and there is no driving range nearby either. Excuses excuses ...

I practice when I've got nothing better to do....
I'd rather play 9 than spend an hour on the range but if I can't fit playing into the schedule then the range gets a visit.

Range/practice ground, maybe 3-4 times a year.

Putting green, every week before a round about 15mins, and a couple of times a month for a hour or so.

Too much historically so cutting down to a single range session per week and playing both days at weekends. Once the longer nights come I'll do one night on chipping/putting and one on pitching/bunkers and the rest is about getting out and playing a lot, lot more

Practice for 20 mins at the range once or twice a week at lunchtimes depending on meetings and stuff to do. Would happily practice everyday if I could - love it. Only have the opportunity to play 35 ish rounds a year so practice is often my only means to play especially in the winter months.

Depends on time of year and how much time I have.

During the winter I'll try 1-2 range sessions, usually one day after work in the week and then Sat evening. Then I'll probably just play on Sunday morning. I'll usually have 1 lesson a month as well.

Sometimes in the winter I'll just go and hit some balls, just because I like hitting them really. No structure to the practice, it just keeps the swing going when I can't get on the course.

When the clocks change I don't tend to do that many practice sessions and tend to play a lot more. I might focus on something if that part of my game has gone off the rails a bit and maybe get a lesson if I can't fix it myself.
