I'm umming and ahhing about joining the golf club at my local muni (Sherdley Park) as it's a cheap membership and then pay-per-play after that. That would work for me as other commitments mean that I reckon I might get at most 2 or 3 rounds a month in.

My concern with that is that it doesn't seem very often to get out. How often do other people get out on course? If it's not enough then maybe I should stick to social rounds and avoid the comps.

Pay per play after you join?

I play a round myself or with another golfer on their own on a weekday and with regular partner every sunday

I play once a week at the mo, hope to do a few 9 holes after work soon though.

fortunately my membership is on £400 a year so doesnt work out too expensive overall.

i play at least twice a week if my days off are week days, and if im on a later start for work ill usually go out and play 10 holes before work. so can be anything up to 4 maybe 5 times a week but usually about 3. plus i put in a bit of time at the range on days off before playing and on the putting green every time im there, chipping and putting.

Played A LOT last year, in fact probably too much.

Planning on twice a week this year, maybe three if the weather is good. and I am going to practice more.

Pay per play after you join?

Yeah, the club is £100 for the year and the course is £18 per round. There is an annual season ticket for £495 (so worth it if I play 28 or more rounds) as an option too.

Last year I more than got my memberships worth as I was down the club 4-5 days a week, sometimes for 2 hours practice area time, sometimes for 5 holes, sometimes for 18+ holes in a day.

The club was more than just the golf for the membership, it was a great practice facility with VERY cheap range balls and a wonderful short game area, discounts in the proshop and bar, friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse, great members, fantastic and regular comps etc.

It is quite simple, for a membership where all you get is a discount on the cost of golf then its a simple maths promblem, remember to take into account weather and daylight hours for winter/summer golf.

If its a proper membership where you get almost unlimited access to the course and practice facilities then its not just a money thing, you have to weigh up the value of everything else at the club...

Quite how you put a monitory value on the atmosphere of a clubhouse still evades me!

I've made the concious decision (.... With the wifes approval) to play alot more this year.

Curently playing 18 holes of a Saturday with 9 holes Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

I play once a week in winter weather permitting and at least 3 times now its light till half eight.

no practice though just playing.

I pay £500 per year, 7 days a week membership
So i play at least 1 time per week, sometimes 2,3 if i can
Most rounds ive played in a week is 5

I played sat and sun through the winter and now play Sat, every other sunday and at least 18 holes twice a week after work. Start at 5am so am usually on the course for 1430 during the week. Get back home in time to see the little one and bath her etc. Only ever play in the mornings at weekends.
