A very rare bird for me, maybe one a year these days at very best.
Funny thing is during all the years I have played I have made more from holing out a second shot to a par 4 or 3rd shot to par 5 than I have for getting on a par 5 in two and single putting.
I use to make more than I should at Wimbledon Common where the 3rd, 5th 9th and 15th were all driveable in summer. There were a few on the old course at Ascot that were in range too but since moving to the new one I am not sure I've had more than one and that was on a short down wind par five
to put it in context through the 2017 session to date on the pga tour total eagle leader has made 14 - 2nd has made 12
over that same time span this year my total count is 9 - so 8 on par 5's {no approach shot hole outs}so all on in 2 & dropped putts
one par 4 eagle at cypress (9th) 297 yards (on the day) par 4 - a tad downhill no headwind - 3 metal & 15' putt
probably as might be expected over whole time of playing the number of eagles are many as usually get into the teens for the year - plus overtime have had to date 11 hio's
I've been playing golf for 15/16 years now and have only ever made 1 eagle. I holed a 5 iron on the difficult 3rd at Forrester Park in Essex. I haven't got the firepower to make par 5's in two so therefore am reliant upon holing full iron shots either from the fairway or from the tee!!!! Hence my embarrassingly low total .
mine are so rare that i remember them all - only 5. Portmarnock Hotel & Links, Berkshire Blue, Frilford Heath Blue, Bearwood Lakes, Hayling!! I want more!!!!!
Quite rarely and almost always on away courses. Probably 1 per year. Our par 5's are hard to reach in two (uphill and dogleg) and the shortest par 4 is 337 and again uphill and dogleg. Good old James Braid😀
10 and 18 at Nairn a couple of times a month as both are only about 500 and usually down wind, not had a two on a par 4 for a while though, thats more luck than anything
Mid teens Handicap. I have had 4 in 25+ years, all on par 4s, two where I drove the green and sank the putt, 2 where I holed out from the fairway. So not many. Quite depressing really 😕
I do get quite a few birdies though.
I'm off 11 and not a short hitter and I think I've had about 3, maybe 4, in 6 years.
Both the courses I played regularly during that time the par 5's are pretty un-gettable in 2 unless you hit 2 absolute peaches. Drives need to be long and to exactly the right spot to give you any chance to go for it. Then the second is going to be 200-230 carry to tight well protected greens that you'll need to get to stop quick. Almost impossible to run one in.
There was a short par 4, 285 yards, at my first place that I could drive the green but it was well protected, had 2 eagles there. At least one other 1 was on our par 5 17th where I laid up in 2 and holed from 100 yards.
Thanks for all the responses - I don't feel quite so bad about my rate of 1 ish per year now (mine are a mix of par 4 hole outs and par 5's in 2). Interesting what Coach said about top pro having 14 already this year. I guess they see it as a green light, whereas a lot of us it's just on the outer edges of reach, and punishment is often a double if you get it wrong from so far out.
One on a par three (i thank you...) - 13th at Haigh hall
One a pitch in on a par 5 from about 60 yards (after a duffed tee shot and approach)- 2nd at Chorley
One was a 40 foot putt on a par 4 after driving the green - 10th at Chorley
One was a 30 foot putt after driving a par 4 green - 14th at Chorley
One after playing my best three consecutive shots ever. Boomed drive, low stinging 5 iron under the incoming wind (maybe my best shot ever), then sunk a really nasty 15 foot putt that swung about 5 foot - 9th at Hart common
Weirdly all the Chorley ones happened on three consecutive mid week rounds. My PP was getting mildly peed off i can tell you
