We have had posts about club fees, bar spend etc, now for lessons/practice. Homer's latest Pingate saga got me thinking, as he is often referencing lessons with his pro. Homer and others - how much do you spend per year on

A. Pro lessons

B. Range tokens

Unsurprising for anyone who has seen my golf, I spent zilch on either, although we do have a charge factored into our subs for the driving range and short game area - £125 from memory, although you can't opt out!

Lessons zip, very little at the range these days as the club I am at now has a decent practise area - case of picking up your own balls though. Probably less than £30 in the last 12 months.

A. Zero for the last 10 years. This year £15 so far.

B. roughly £20 a year as I prefer the practise ground we have.

For me I spend £15 every fortnight on lessons and £10 to £20 a week at the range through out the winter. That may seem a lot, but I don't smoke, rarely if drink alcohol at these days and go out for the occasional meal with my other half.

That written I'm looking at investing in some scaffold tubes and netting to make my own range net in the back garden, which with the amount I pay at the driving range, the net in the back garden would pay for itself within 4 months.

probably about £150-£200 on lessons, I have had a series of lessons both last winter and this plus a couple of lessons during the season when things went awry.

Your not kidding that it would pay for itself in 4 months if your spending that much on the range. Great idea.

a) spending £350 on 6 month academy, 2 lessons a month, video, launch monitor & 3 on course playing lessons.

Spent 3 years hacking it around with the odd decent round thrown in so thought I might aswell commit to something to sort me for the long term (theoretically). Could well end up being as crap then as I am now but at least then I will know golf obviously isnt going to be my forte :)

b) £20 a month on a 10 token card, sometimes might buy extra as currently using 3 a week

Lessons: November - March = £100 (1x 40 minute lesson / month)

Range: Tricky one that. I tend to play more in the summer so will spend less at the range. If I has to guess. November-March £150, with the next 7 months going at about £100. Maybe a touch more.

£75 on lessons last year, the last £25 of which I wish I hadn't spent. Typically I have one lesson in Feb/March every year, just for a refresher.

Range tokens, don't know. I try to stat away from the range because we have good practice facilities but they're currently underwater, so I've been to the range a couple of times recently. Spent about £15.

About the same as this. Block over the winter in 2012 and this year and a playing lesson to look forward t if the course is open. Very happy but need to get out and play now.

A) Nothing in the last 5years, and before that I spent £8 per session in a group lesson scenario (I attended 3 of them)
B) Nothing in the last year, I bought a range card last year for £15 and still have about 5 buckets left on it.

A) I have maybe two or three lessons a year at £25 a time.

B) I only use the range over the winter, maybe £5 a week for 15 weeks.

So all in that's around £150! XXX  XXX Wish I'd not done the sums now.

I spend about £600 a year on lessons. Shame only about £40 of that is on my lessons as the rest is for the kids lessons on Saturday mornings and a few one on one lessons each throughout the year.

Don't spend a penny on lessons and don't really go to the range so guess about a £5 a month

May pay for 1 or 2 lessons over the course of the year (i do spend a bit more time with one of our pros but play in pro-ams with him etc and get looked after). Range tokens we get 6 for £9 (about 40 balls each) so probably £50 over the course of a year maybe, probably around £100 for the 2 combined

A: Group lessons a bargain £50 for 6 one hours. Only two of us at the moment and Pro always willing to check up on what I'm doing at no extra cost.

B: Nothing as they are part of our membership.

Spent £60 on 2 hours of lessons last year and nothing on range tokens. If I do practice I use the grass practice area for nothing. On that I took 6 shots off my handicap

I used to pay £75 per lesson for 1.5hrs, and had them every 6weeks with an Ex England coach. But now I'm with a local pro as the Ex England coach got an academy in Shropshire. I never worry bout how much I spend, it's if I need it I go by.
