How Long do you use a golf ball for??

It must work out expense enough all the same, when your playing with brand new pro v's etc.. As i play most weekend comps.. that be say 4 balls for some of yous. then 5/6 quid to enter a comp as well..

It depends on a lot of things - like how much the wind is blowing. If its hard then on our 1st its blowing right to left and my ball will almost certainly go in the clag, ditch, trees, pond, and never be seen again so a manky one will do.

It all depends upon the little green men who seem to pinch mine.
Normally use a new for starting a round and if it gets damaged put it away for the newbies at work, same with any I find all go into the crap pocket. Found 8 the other week noe have a basket in the garage for then, the cardboard box split and I had to chase about 40 balls all over the floor not very funny as I was late for the game.

I'll always start with a brand new ball for competitions and will carry another new ball (different number) as a provisional in my pocket. I'll keep the original all round if possible and to be honest a few scuff marks from wedges don't really affect me.

If I've still got the same ball at the end of the round, I'll keep it and use it in bounce games. To be honest I've not been playing well enough to keep a ball for more than two rounds but back when I did I'd put it into the practice bag once it became dull in colour more than if it got scuffed.

Of course I could be completely wrong here, but isn't it against the rules to carry a ball in your pocket during a round? Sure I heard it said somewhere, anyone know if this rule applies?

Golfmmad.

In winter I tend to keep one ball in my pocket and then substitute it at the start of each hole. The theory is a warmer ball will travel further. Not sure there is anything in it at my level but did it since a junior and its habit now. As long as I tell my partners what ball I'm using I don't see what rules it breaks.

I hope not. I always carry a "frightener" in my left pocket. If I need to hit a provisional I'd hate to have to walk back to my bag and faff around getting another ball out. Sometimes the bag can be left a long way away from the teeing area so just carry an extra one for convenience. Always handy to have one so that you can lend a mate a ball for his provisional too saving him having to walk back to his bag....
