How long do you give a new club before binning it?

Callaway razr forged I got from Ethan were dropped in 3 rounds and a range session. I knew the shafts were just too strong sbd my natural rythm had gone

That's why I got shot of my Pings. For a "regular" shaft, they didn't have a lot of give in them.
Sold them to a mate of mine. He ain't getting on with them either

I've got a stiff shafted Cleveland Mashie , although I've got no problem getting it to launch it plays on my mind that all my other clubs are regular shafts so although it stays in my bag I haven't used it for the last 3 rounds , I think it's the end of the road for it less than 6 months after buying it.

Think you can tell from the off whether you are going to get along with a new club, so if it don't feel right don't waste your time get shut and buy another shiny toy:thup:

I did, and it behaved impeccably.. hence why I bought it. Since then though, it has been something of an unruly child, behaving only when it wants. ;)

The magic fairy dust will fall off between paying and your second round with the new purchase. It always gives you a good first one just to lure you into thinking "this is the one".

If you buy off-the-shelf from retailers like American Golf this is what happens. The club feels perfect and looks fine on their simulator. However the honeymoon is short-lived and it doesn't work for you. Then you end up selling it and buying another one. The process is repeated approximately 3 times a year. Instead, work with your local pro to get fitted for the right club for you. Once fitted, the club or clubs will be good for 3 years or more. It might cost a little more but it will save you a lot of money and heart-ache in the long run.

Recently I picked up a second-hand Taylormade R1 from American Golf, and I've been playing with it recently in our winter league, and also hitting it down the range.

Its a nice club, in decent nick for a second-hand driver but I'm not feeling quite as comfortable with it as I was with the Benross driver I used previously. When I catch the R1 well, it flies longer than my Hotspeed, and GC2 data shows I don't spin the ball as much with the R1 compared to the Hotspeed, which helps with my dispersion.

Where it falls down for me though is forgiveness; if I catch it wrong, it goes almost nowhere compared to the Benross, and my mis-hits seem more prevalent with the R1 and more accentuated. If you gave me twenty balls and told me to hit ten each with the Hotspeed and the R1, I'd hit more 'good' shots with the former than the latter i'm sure.

But when I do catch the R1 right, it is a cracking club, and I really, really want to like it. I keep pulling it out of the bag to put the Benross back in, but end up giving the R1 one more chance and it goes back into the bag instead. It's been a month now, and I'm still humming and hawwing between the two, weighing up the pros and cons of each.

If you were me, would you persevere with the R1 in hope of taming it, or would you go back to the Benross?
Hi best advice here is pop back along to Livingston store and our guys will gladly have a look and make sure it's set up to an optimum setting for you Bring your benross along as well so we can compare. Like a previous poster said always good to get the best advice even on a second hand club and one of our PGA staff will be delighted to help in whichever way we can I will bring this thread to the attention of the manager so you will be expected if you do pop in . Good luck

Thanks.

I actually bought if from Corstorphine branch, but the launch monitor wasn't working so the assistant had to set it by eye based on the curtain indent....

I had a AG MOT a couple of weeks ago at Livingston, and it was set again by eye as launch monitor wasn't available, assistant recommended upping the loft to 12deg (same as Benross) and 2degrees open.

Thanks.

Hi well if that has not helped and your still unsure about it. Then your most welcome to revisit either braids(range&flightscope) or Edinburgh. Their launch monitor should be operational now. I believe Livingston should have a new system any day now! I'm sure we can get a favourable outcome for you Thanks
