Just following on from the thread about how far would you travel....

How late can you leave it for a round at your club??
Do you have to book up 5 days in advance to ensure the right tee times available or can you ring up on the same day and get a time? Maybe your at a club where you don't operate tee times, how does congestion on the course affect you?? Do you prefer no tee times??

No tee booking which is a major factor in any course I join.

In 6 years, never had to wait longer than 20minutes to tee off and that was playing at prime time 09:00 on a Saturday morning.

Would have to think long and hard about joining clubs that required prior booking.

No Tee booking with us. Just turn up and play. The only exception is obviously comps etc and large societies. members are unable to book tee times for themselves. Longest we have to wait is normally 10-15 minutes and it rarely becomes congested.

Last thing I'd want is to have to book a time in advance to play a course I was a member of. In fact i would never join a course that operated that way.

John.

Only really need to book for comps.

There are a mix of bookable and non bookable times, but it has never really affected me.

Obviously if you just turn up without phoning first you might find there is a junior medal or a society on or something, so it helps if you have some idea of when you want to play.

I totally agree with you, what's the point in joining a club if you can't just turn up and play

No tee times at my place either (except for competitions - drawn times close the Wednesday the week before - 10 days before the event). Otherwise, pull up and go out. I've never had to wait very long and even as a single will either find a game to join of be allowed to head out first. It is one of the reasons I joined. The club HID works at has booked times all day so in theory you still need to book to go out 6.00pm and later (although in practice you can normally slide out without too much trouble)

The course I'm a member of is a good course but I'm finding it tough to play as much as I'd like due to having to book a few days in advance for a round during the day.

The busiest times are from 9-4pm which is when I want to play so I either get up early on my days off or only play on an evening when the Mrs is back from work which I cant do everyday for obvious reasons.

It's a shame really because the course is excellent it's just not fitting into my needs for daytime golf.

Our course is a Municipal with club attached to it. We have to book for comps and can book in advance through the week but if you turn up on the day you can generally get out with other members. Not a problem.

The reason I chose my course is that there is no need to book and you can just turn up and queue. They are toying with the idea of a ball chute in winter so as you can wait in the warm but that is about it.

There is a club only a mile from my house with 2 nice courses and a par 3 but there is a small hotel so they added a tee booking system. Now members are having all sorts of problems as the more organised groups with plenty of time on their hands are booking up all the prime tee times so they cannot easily get on their own course. I am simply not organised enough to fit in to that sort of system

That's fine...unless all the other members decide to turn up and play at the same time. :p

:D all 550

So if I had a society of 36 golfers teeing off at your place at 2 o clock in 3 balls and you turned up at 2.15, would you expect to go straight out or wait until gone 3.30 and queue all the way round 18 holes?

No wonder you have to book a tee time, (like the post above) there is a hotel so presumably the visitors will want to play

Quick look in the diary or call to the pro shop and i'd avoid those times.

That doesn't happen every day Bob, if it did I would also be looking for a new club. :D

This post is about booking tee times we have a noticeboard like most places that tells you what's going on obviously if there is a society booked I would play either earlier or later but I still wouldn't have to book a tee time

hope this helps bob :p

Tee times can be booked at my place, but I've never bothered.for a decent course I'm still surprised how I can turn up pretty much any time and get off pretty much straight away.

Its not as bad as some hotel courses out there. When I joined the course back in march I had a chat with the manager and the pro and they were clear that I can book a tee time like anyone else can, I just get to do it days before visitors can.
I've just found it fustrating that I like to wake up and think 'I fancy a round today' and when I ring the club I know it's busy during the day so I can't really get a game till 4pm onwards.

I'm seriously considering joining a private members club where you don't have to book a tee time and can get straight on usually.

When I first started playing, the course I regularly used was one where you put your ball in a shute, but got fed up after having to wait as long as an hour sometimes.

The course I'm a member of now has booked tee times and not a problem for me. The good thing is that members can only have alternate tee times with pay and plays, therefore stopping blocked bookings.

I only play at weekends, so on non comp days turn up about an hour beforehand, have a quick drink and chat in the clubhouse, then some chipping and putting, a few hits in the nets, and off we go to the first.

To me that's how weekend golf should be, nice and relaxed and organised after the stresses of the working week.

We operate a booking system but I can quite often turn up and play with just a quick call to the shop to find out.
We normally book our friday time the week before to ensure we get the time we want. Mornings can get a bit busy, as can twilight time.
