There's always comment when people discuss clubs about getting it CF and ensuring the shaft is right for you. I'm nothing special, I don't think I have anything like a decent swing speed, so I'm comfortable enough with an off the shelf regular shaft.

Also there's no way I'm affording top brand CF in the foreseeable future. But I am saving up for a half decent driver and putter.

Without getting it fully fitted to me, how easy should it be to get the right grip size ? If I buy off the shelf, I get standard loft, regular shaft, and standard grip.

But I think I tend to get on better with a smaller grip. Small hands, you see.

How important is the grip, and what's the best way to get it sorted ?

( Or is there a decent £60 driver out there that someone will CF for me, for free :D :D :D )

The grip is quite important.
If it's too thick, the club tends to come through slightly open and if it's too thin, a little closed.
Try this next time you play.........
When you hold the club, the tips of your fingers should be just touching the palm of your hand.
Go and see your local pro and ask him or her to check your grip.
Where are you in Britain?

I don't know about custom fitting but as I'm clouting my G10 so well I can't see me going back to my almost mint Ben Sayers "Benny"....trust me, you could do a lot worse.
10.5 degrees, Prolaunch red shaft, complete with headcover. Jeez, you'd think I was considering selling it wouldn't you?
;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I bought the brother-in-law a Benny at Christmas and I am staggered at how good looking a driver it is. Considering the cost, the grip and shaft combination plus looks are second to none!

I would put some serious consideration into that club at that price if I were you.

Even AG can measure your hands and finger length for you and will add layers of tape under the grip if need be.

Do you not have a local pro who could do it for you? Most dont even charge, maybe £1 for the tape.

I just thought on, you can even get thicker grips, you could see if AG or your local store have any of these fitted to any clubs instore. Just pick one up and compare the grip size to a normal one.

I'd rather trust my trained PGA pro to put my grips on (if I was being lazy and not doing my own) and not some shop boy. It is a basic job but still needs to be done properly and I have no faith in the skills of the AG staff at my nearest stores. Also, my pro always takes the time to measure the customers hand every time and talk about how many layers they want, grip size etc. Better service and probably a better price

Homer the guy at AG didnt charge me, He aint a pro and he did a top job. Its not that difficult to change a grip. Just like putting ya socks on straight!

A few years ago I was fitted for a set of Pings. According to the fitter I needed midsize grips. He showed me the reaoning behind this and I had to agree. I never really played well with those i3's - partly because the grips never felt truly right. But I persevered because they had been recommended.
Fast forward to now and I'm playing with standard size grips and playing as well as I have ever done, if not better.
With (allegedly!) the wrong size grips...........

The usual grips fitted to most clubs rip my hands to shreds. Tour Velvet is a big no-no for me. Ironically the rougher surface of a corded grip isn't usually too bad, but best for me are the slightly softer wrapped look grips. Though because of the expense not currently an option I can afford to do, so will have to put up with shredded hands for a while longer.

If anyone can recommend a reasonably good quality wrapped look grips that don't have those killer indentations found in tour velvet to me that come in at a reasonably good price I'd love to know.

I'd love the leather wrapped ones, but at £20 a grip not going to be an option.

I got 2 tapes added from AG when I got the FP's, I then checked my wedges and soon realised they also needed the extra thickness of two tapes, I think it was the reason I was having problems with the F Speed driver and its thin grip.
