As the title says guys. Reason being i'm looking for some new irons and ideally would like them made to measure. however, you can buy irons online so much cheaper, but you wouldnt get them fitted, they'd all be standard.

i'm 6'1", and my current irons are standard size.

Help and advice appreciated..............

It is down to how fixed your swing is. If you are still establishing a swing, it is pointless, if you have been playing a while, then you should benefit, if only from having the correct flex shafts in them. Stiff in one make may be nearer to regular in another.
I always thought I was stiff, standard length/lie, and it turns out I am more consistent with regular, 1/2" longer, 2 degree upright. Only c/f will tell you this.

If you buy forged irons, it's not to difficult to find a pro locally who will alter them for you.
If you buy cast clubs, you can still find somebody to "have a go" but they can't guarantee they won't damage one.

They will only really benefit you if you have a repeatable (to some extent) action. Some players can just use off the shelf clubs and others really find that a specific length, lie or shaft makes all the difference.

A lot of places will offer a c/f and may charge you for the session which can be offset against the cost of the irons. A cheaper way may be to go to some demo days in the Spring and Summer. Most reps will do a basic check to see if regular length will fit and will have clubs in different lies and shaft specifications.

I went to a TM day and the guy had me on their state of the art launch monitor so I could see how various shafts broke down in terms of ball speed, launch angle etc and compare it with how the ball flew. Callaway always have a good demo choice as do Mizuno and Ping.

I would say, go get fitted if you can afford too. The benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Good luck and keep us posted.

thanks for the advice guys. i'll try and find a demo day near me and see if fitted clubs make much differnce. i've had the same clubs for nearly 10 years now. only played for 2 of them years though. h/c now 19.

i bought my irons last feb and i am going to be booking in for a custom fit next week ,

the guy at american golf where i used to work reckoned it be best for me to get used to the irons and then if need be have them adjusted and they offer a free service up to 12 months after purchase ..

it might a bit different if your not going to be a standard fit though ,

Get fitted. I have been cf'd 3 times. My driver, 3 wood and irons. I use my kit far better than anything I have ever just picked up off the shelf.

There is more to a CF than just length and lie. There is grip size, shaft flex, kick point, and shaft weight. Not to mention finding a club head that you can hit consistantly well and good when your playing bad.

If your serious about your game. Get fitted.
