I have read many posts on here recently and in the past of forum members who have played free rounds of golf, sometimes on some fantastic courses! I am just wondering how these things have come about? Is it through your work/profession, ie corporate days or schoomzing clients, or mates/members have gotten you on etc?
Only asking as I am very jealous and wish I had a job that had perks like that!!

I get a lot of free golf on some of the best courses in the UK, especially the south of England. Mostly this is with work when I am playing in events with customers and prospects.

I also have a few friends with memberships at nice courses too. Wentworth, Sunningdale, West Sussex, The Berkshire, Gog Magog etc.

You can go off people you know :smirk:

:D

I am a member of a golf society related to aerospace and the fixture list this year is St Georges Hill, Wentworth, The Berkshire, Sunningdale, Liphook, Frilford Heath, Hankley Common, West Hill, Worplesdon, Woburn, Forest of Arden and then back to St Georges Hill again. My mate is this year's captain so I will probably attend most of these.

I also go to Pat Jennings golf day every year at Royal County Down as a guest of my friend.

I am sure I can get a four ball made available at one of the courses listed if you want to go with 3 others? Sadly, it won't be for free.......

As with most things in life it's who you know and being in the right place at the right time.

I've not been fortunate to find much free golf but have managed a few other corporate freebies.

My brother is in marketing and used to get taken to top courses all the time, mainly by companies selling media space, air time etc. Got to play pretty much the whole open rosta and a number of others. He even played the last round at St Andrews before they shut it for The Open.

Times are far more austere now and those sort of perks are nowhere near as prevalent for him as they used to be.

As for me, I get the odd round on a local course or take the odd client or work provider out locally but not to any big name courses etc.

For me it's generally been a combination of company days, inter club competitions and through friends. I've got a friend that is a member at entworth, know quite a few people at some very nice other courses as well.

Plus being a member of 2 very good courses that other people want to play helps as well ;)

working in IT sales for me, i get a fair few corporate golf days at nice places (the oxfordshire, forest of Arden) and also am lucky enough to be able to take customers to play wherever they want and expense it as a cost of business. Its certainly cheaper than some of the marketing things big companies do!

I have had a few invites for corporate days - last one was in Austria which was fantastic.

However the best ones are usualy a mate of mine who a few times a year organises days for his business and asks me along to help run the comps and participate / make up team numbers etc. I play golf with him every weekend and in knockouts etc and invite him to things I go to so he returns the favour in style. Some of his customers think that I work for him I have seen them so many times.

The only free golf I get is a round at my local track for free with every five green fees paid

My golf buddies father in law is lucky enough to have played Augusta , through some journalist or another

Currently only free golf I get is through the reciprocal deals we have at our club with other courses - thats the joys of being self employed and not working with other people.

In the past when in the corporate world have been fortunate enough to have had plenty of good freebies, working at Whitbread often meant freebies at Forest of Arden, St Pierre etc, a previous Boss had corporate at the Oxfordshire and I had a standing invite but the best was a 3 day long weekend to the K Club all ex's paid at my last company :) About all I miss from the corporate world too lol

Free golf comes with the subscription to a Scottish golf mag

^^ This. I had a round at The Dukes at St Andrews and The Kintyre at Turnberry this year. Next year I have picked Murrayshall, The Roxburghe and Macdonald Cardrona as my three free rounds.

Also this year, friends have invited me to Gleneagles twice, Gullane #1 and #2, Carnoustie Championship and Burnside plus Lundin Links.

I was fortunate enough to get a number of free rounds this year by helping out with the junior team at our club. Each club in the league allows junior organizers courtesy of the course behind the competition.
Played some nice courses including Ormskirk, Lancaster, Formby and Hesketh. Will hopefully get to play another good selection next year as well.

I use to get a few freebies when I worked for Oracle but that was a long time ago and times are getting hard. You'd think I'd be able to tap some of the consultants at the hospital for a game somewere nice. Actually.................... that gives me an idea

Played in Corporate golf days in the past when working in the Private sector. Working in the Public sector now and have to be very careful about accepting hospitality etc. Had to turn down several invites to Corporate days at some very nice courses. Bummer :(
