How good do you REALLY want to be?

Still have a vague ambition to get to s/f but not really that fussed anymore. I'd be happy around 10/11/12. Mostly I'd just like to be able to play decent golf with more good shots than bad, no disasters and be able to break 80 now and again but mostly to be able to enjoy it whatever I score.

I am going to join a club at some point, maybe in the next 12 months and I want to try and get to scratch within a year of being a member. Lowest I have ever been was 1.4 and that seems like it was a long time ago.

I think I can do it as I am playing regularly to Cat 1 standard and I only play about 15 rounds a year. It is a big leap to 0 though. Also, I am much more risk averse on the course that I was in my impetuous youth! This will help.

Not sure if I will do it but I am hopeful.

I'm off 23 at the moment and want to get to 18 for easy scoring purposes but actually I'm quite happy now just going round with the same ball and not looking in the long grass every other hole.

Realistically i've already reached my limit and i'm actually happy to be sliding back up. Lowest i've been is 3.0 and tbh its a slog and now i'm back to 4 I quite like the idea of being a 5 ;) If I swing between 4 and 5 I would be happy to see out my playing days , I dont want to see 3 by my name ever again

Yup, I remember lat year.

A bandit off 5.

Carried me 'round WH to thrash those darned Pingers.

:)

I taught him everything he knows, donchaknow.

I seem to remember my pars werent needed as someone kept getting nett or even gross birides off 18. Damn fine chap he was , wonder whatever happened to him. Someone said he was a pyschologist giving out sageful advice to anyone that would listen :D

Something arounf 15-16 would be fine for me. I started the game quite late on and have no time (or inclination) to spend hours on a range or on the practice ground. I only pick up the clubs to play a round and that is only 1-2 times a week. Based on that I will be happy once I am under 18 and satisfied with 15-16.

My aim for the next 2 years is to make 4. Best ever was 4.5 before i gave up when i was 18. I started back and just started getting my game together last year and managed to get down to 10 when the threat of redundancy to the wife meant i had to give up again.

The short game was just about starting to click, driving and irons were solid and i was comfortably shooting low to mid 70's again. So, with finances resolved i just have to decide where to join next year and off i go again. I'm 30 at the moment so should have a good few years to hit 4. I do think there's a massive difference once you start getting to 3 and below and don't think i could quite cope with that.

I want to play off 16.

That would do me nicely. No need for range trips, just turn up and see what comes.

Just the 50 poor cards needed to get there. But I will. :o

Single figures, without any doubt, is my main goal and I'd like to push that to Cat 1. I set myself the goal of getting from 28 to 22 last year, and did that in the space of 3 months after a very good summer.

However, having missed a good chuck of this year through injury and now being at a new, more challenging club, I'm going to aim for enjoyment first as I put way too much pressure on myself last year. I know what I'm capable of, so fingers crossed I will come down a bit this year ready to kick on from there.

18 would suit me  and if it hadn't been for 4 good competition rounds in the last 4 years I would have been there.

Still struggling of 13.4 and rising :D

Given up any pretensions of grandeur to get to single figures.
