I can honestly say that, unless I was swinging well, I would think at least twice before going for a 215 yard carry.
That sort of carry means the flag is likely to be 230+, assuming I'm going for a green, and, for me, it's probably a non starter. Doable, but more than likely miss the green if I make the carry.
Off the tee I would still be thinking twice and unless the conditions and state of the game warranted it, a lay up to 180/200 yards would probably serve me better.
Our first is an example.
Shortest carry is about 170, longest about 200. I can clear the ditch with a hybrid but I can also stuff it in the water or left/right into trees and God knows what else. As its the first shot of the day, the pressure is higher so, mostly, it is played as a 3 shotter, hoping to get a pitch close enough for a single putt but being happy with a 5 as its a low SI.
