How far do you hit your 7 iron and your driver?

Three pages of numbers. Wonder if that is enough for the OP to get "an average". Still don't see how he can correlate what everyone else does into something constructive but each to their own.

I dont actually have a clue what my distances are anymore, certainly not on a consistant basis. Since I started taking lessons and completely changing my swing the ball goes a lot further than it used to, i tend to take a 9 iron or PW from around 150 yards now but it just depends how I feel for that shot. I hit my 4 iron through the back of the green on our 223 yard par 3 on Sunday which I've never done before. I'm not entirely sure hitting it this far is a good idea anyway because if I'm off target, which I frequently am, then I'm off target by a long way now.

If you are hitting the ball that far then slow the swing down a bit and try hitting it with more of a controlled 3/4 swing. That is what I do, I can swing faster and hit the ball further than I do now, but I start to loose control of the ball when I do.

With the seven iron in particular, my answer to the question 'how far do you hit it' is 'as far and as high or low as I have to'.

The seven is my main 'hit it according to the conditions' club. However for a 'normal' shot (whatever that is), if on a cold day I see 150yds I think 7 iron (and then decide the sort of shot I'm going to do and club up or down accordingly) - if I see 150yds on a warm day I think 8 iron (and then decide the sort of shot I'm going to do and club up or down accordingly). I don't hit the ball far - I don't care. I try and hit it in the direction I want it to go.

my driver? - I've hit it over 400yds (courtesy of a tarmac road that was part of the course - Dunsfold Aerodrome as it happens) and I've hit it 0yds (though not so often these days unless seriously pi$$ed)

I'm trying to do that but I find when I slow the swing down I'm leaving the club face open and pushing the shots to the right. Frustrating game this!
