hi there i am new here only singed up the other day.
i am new to golf as i have only been playing for 18 months or so.
it all started when my life got turned upside down when my wife gave birth to my little girl.
and when this happened i very nearly lost both of them and i was in the room with them and see it all. it was the worst day of my life.
but both palled through but my wife could never go back to full time work as she is now partly disabled.

so big life changes and i had to give up all most every thing that i loved doing to make ends meet.

and then one day i just got my self a half set of clubs and tried to play.
had a few lesions and was hooked.
the strange thing is that non of my friends play and most of the time i play on my own,
even thou i go to the same club most of the time i find that i most all ways end up there when its quite.

i still ask my self how did i find golf and i love it

very new Michael

Hello welcome to the forum you won't ever be alone on here day or night.
Good you found the would of been better in happier circumstances.
Enjoy.

Hi mate and welcome, sorry to hear about he rough patch you have been through :-(

Golf is a great sport and can be very satisfying when it goes well....

JUST STICK WITH IT ;-)

Welcome to the nuthouse....

Started about 10 years ago when the (then) gf said dhe wanted to play as her mum played a bit. I went along loved it and apart from a forced break for a few years - love it.

ps we all like a good old moan on here

Welcome to the forum, if your happy to travel theres always a space available to join me for a game at weekends.

I first found golf about 8 years ago but never played 18 holes until nov '10. My first memory of golf though was round my grandparents house, found granddadds set of blades under the stairs. Still have them but can't hit the blighted!

Welcome mate, great to see another person join this great game, although I think we all wish you could have found it in better circumstances! I found golf about 9 months ago when one of my mates asked if I wanted to do pitch and putt for a bit of a laugh, well needless to say that was all it took ,and now I'm hooked! :)

Welcome to the forum I am sure you will find many people here with the same love and similar types of topics discussed over and over again. To give you an insight look out for

Is ping just for old people?
Whats the best driver?
Whats the best ball?
When will TM bring out a new driver?
Blooming seniors
Blooming juniors
Driver or Putter?
Custom fitting?

I think that gives you the basics :p

I started golf when I was 12 years old when both my uncles played and I wanted to join them, they advised my mum to buy me a half set of clubs and get some lessons. I done this for about 6 months until I realised no one my age actually played so I was getting bored on my own or just having lessons so I stopped. Only then played now and again, until 2 years ago I joined a club where my colleagues were and have played there for the last 2 years near enough once a week. Just joined a new club with a couple of mates and love the game still.

Welcome Micky, glad your wife and little girl pulled through.

Golf is character building and I believe shows someone's true character. It's a game you can thoroughly enjoy on your own or with friends or even strangers. Always a challenge, always frustrating, always rewarding and there's always that one shot that brings you back.

I started when my uncle took my brother to play as he wanted to learn, I tagged along as it was the school summer holidays, my brother hated it (and now is quite well known in martial arts) and I loved it, got a Saturday job at Tesco's and bought myself a half set of Henry Cotton Royale blades, joined 'Royal Knightswood' 9 holer and played everyday, hooked for life! Even sitting in traffic jams I wonder what club would get me over the adjacent buildings

Welcome to the forum.
I've been playing for a while now.

I'm 96 now ;)

Welcome to the forum pal, and im sorry to hear about your unfortunate circumstances.

I got into golf as a kid when my dad bought me a half junior set and i knocked around the pitch and putt on my holidays but as I got older I stopped playing as the lure of drink, women and partying became my passion.
So 2 years ago I bought myself a set and joined a club and am now smitten.

Welcome to the forum.

Lots of great banter and advice here.

Golf provides a great escape from the trials and tribulations of life whether it be a few holes on your tod on a late summer's evening or a winter morning fourball with plenty of banter and a pound or 2 at stake, or trying to beat your PB in a medal.

My dad was a golf nut. He was born within a short pitch of a golf course. He passed on his love of the game to me when I was about 8. Had pictures of Jacklin, Nicklaus and Palmer on my bedroom wall along with Moore, Best and Charlton.

Can't really imagine life without golf.

Welcome welcome! I know you know this and everyone knows this but as golf is so addictive its important to remember that the wife and kid comes first, golf comes second and golf is only a game :D

Just thought I should mention it as I am probably the least addicted out of the forum regulars!

I bet you could get a game with someone from the forum easily here, we are a friendly bunch :)

I got into golf by accident, I was supposed to be helping my uncle pick up pizza!
