Hover or ground driver ?

Just curious as to who hovers the driver or grounds it in set up ..

I have until recently always grounded the club , driving would be 9/10 for distance 7/10 for accuracy , just tinkering around the last couple rounds I hover the club , I seem to be hitting it a lot straighter with no loss/possible gain of yardage ..

I know ive probably jinxed my self for scratch cup tomorrow now , just wondering ye'r thoughts on hover V ground or if any of ye have changed from one to the other , what result you achieved

Thanks in advance

At the moment Im grounding it and driving a bit inconsistent, but I have hovered before and for a while my driving improved, so I May go back to it. Certainly helped take away to be smoother and less snatchy, but sometimes I just took it too far on the inside.

hover - (though no 'all right' answer or 'all wrong' answer to the Op Q.)

but just enough to have the sole free from ground contact but not all the ways 'up' so sweetspot of face is directly opposite the ball's equator

reason behind this
ball sits a fair ways higher up than any other shot through the bag
it stops the possibility of a 'snag' during takeback so enabling a smoother path at the get-go of motion

also takes way the possibility of any 'pressing down' any into the ground with the head which often times can cause unwanted tension in the hands and forearms which travels on up into the shoulders to interfere with the ability to pivot/turn/rotate as the engine for the backswing so can have a tendency to disconnect the hands/arms/club from the body

as 'hover' is just a tad above the ground do still with the driver have the ball at set-up just a tad toe-side of center-face alignment
cause when the driver is traveling through impact it's a tad higher off the ground & on an upwards path with toe a tad higher than heel which then will have the face line-up at the tad higher than horizontal center cg sweetspot alignment

{if the driver clubhead is grounded at set-up with ball opposite center (face) when clubhead then returning higher through impact it's a good ways easy to be striking the ball out the heel or heelside of center face - reason along with knowledge of their path a good bunch of Tour Pro's will tend to have the ball at set-up a tad toe-side of center face - or tend to first off address the clubhead completely inside the ball position then just before takeback slide the club forwards to align in behind the ball}

A bit of both.
I ground the club behind the ball while I take my stance, get me grip sorted and position. Then i hover before i start my backswing.
Seams to work, my driver is by far my most consistent club.
Thats not much of a recommendation though.

Er, don't know. I haven't got a Scooby. I know I occasionally brush the ground on the takeaway, which can put me off, but...

I dont like taking the club back from a static position, it tends to make me snatch it away. I use a forward press with my knees then as I pull them back I move the shaft with them, to do this I keep the club grounded at address as it adds a little resistance that helps.

Was given a tip a few weeks ago by a FC watching my driving. He told me to brush the ground briefly on the takeway and this little change has improved my strikes. So in short I ground the club.

Played about 14 holes tonight and tried the hover again and my driving did improve, even tried with teeing up and hovering with my 4 wood and the improvement was immediate and was really getting it out there, so will persevere till it goes tits up.

Re: Hover or ground driver ?

A question like that before a scratch cup.. That's like saying when do you breathe on your backswing.. Asking for trouble. .. Too late to change now
