Thats probably a reserved way of describing my game presently....
After going out last week and shooting 4 under my handicap and getting cut i go out this morning in our Medal and have a Mare.....

I pulled my tee shot on the first and hacked my way to the green for a DB and the start of a landslide......
I then went Par,Bogie,DB,DB,Bogie,Par,Bogie,Bogie, to turn 10 over and have 2/3's of my shots used......
I put the head down on the 10th and went Par,Bogie,Par,Bogie, 9,Par,Birdie,Bogie,9......
To finish with a back 9 of 13 over......So a total of 23 over gross....... 8 over Nett.

After the blow up 9 on our 14th i new that any chance of even the buffer had diminished so i started practicing with my driver which resulted in more lost balls.

A nightmare would be an understatement.....

My putting today crucified me and there was way too much pressure on my short game from wayward shots......
Playing with 2 low single lads (2 and 3 handicappers) they were full of praise for me saying that i kept grinding away and that there is a game in me to play to single figures....Im not sure how but I managed to impress them for that comment.......

There opinion was that i have plenty of power and i do lots of things right and if i can put the effort in then they are certain i have the game to go low.......They have promised to play more with me and try and bring me on in my game which is really positive feedback......

Why the hell is it so hard for a mid handicapper to gain consistency?
Is it something that is gained through time and experience?

A tired and sore chappy!

Know how you feel. But look on the bright side. Sounds like you have a couple of great lads there to play with. Bet they have your game going and handicap falling. Make the most of their offer.

I know Dave....I play with one of them about once a month but they kind of stick their names down anywhere they get an open slot usually...They dont normally mind who they play with.....
I had said that i was working hard to get low and was willing to put the effort in....

I think that one main problem i have is mental and its with the driver..An din fairness one of them told me not to worry as they had been a very bad driver of the ball when they were learning also...But it does get better they said.Just have some patience and belief in your ability....Easier said than done though:mmm:...If i can spend the time figuring out how to hit this straight then it should breed confidence throughout the rest of my game.

Sort of know what youa re saying. Playeda club match yesterday and was partnered with a guy off 6 against a 6 and 12 handicapper. I played the front nine +3 gross and never really put the ball in any trouble and putted well. Parred 10 and 11, made net par at 12 and dropped a shot at 14. +5 gross on the 14th and in a flash the swing went. Tempo got way too quick and old swing traits raised there heads. Had a mare down 14 and 15 (lost ball) but got a ropey drive away after my man went OB and did enough to close out the game with my shot. Chopped 17 and 18. So disappointed an no idea why it went so wrong so quickly.

On the plus side my putting was much better than of late, I chipped better and my only bunker shot of the day was well exectued. I'm still looking like a golfer capable of lower than 12 if only I can keep a round going for 18 holes without any silly slip ups

Its a killer Homer.....It must be something to do with timing and tempo....Because i cannot for the life of me understand how on our 16th par 5 i can push slice a ball with the driver and then reload only to mill the second one dead straight and split the fairway and have a 3 wood distance in on the short stuff.
Suffice to say i found the first in Knee deep grass, chopped it out with a wedge and had 125 mrts to the flag.....I hit 9 iron in and left myself with 20 ft of a putt to drain it for a Birdie.

What a weird game i play!

a consistent mid handicapper is usually called a senior....

you would appear to be a striving improver - and will experience exactly what you outline here; over and over again..........

More like good technique and lots of practice.

If it's any consolation, 2 weekends ago in the middle of an otherwise ok-ish round it took me 4 total and utter miss-hits to reach the green on our 350yd 10th, and this weekend just gone took a triple bogey 7 on our par 4 2nd in an otherwise excellent round.

Ya that makes it a little easier to take Region......Its a bit comforting to know that someone off singles can have a bit of a mare as well.:whoo:

It happens Kid..

Today (with a steamin' bout of Plague - well, a cold)
4 pars to start
Double
Triple
Birdie
Bogey
7 pars
Bogey
Par
Bogey

12 pars and a birdie, a triple and a double and I still broke 80.......

Nice one Murg.
I guess what happened me is that i had a little run of decent form with 2 buffers and 2 cuts in 4 weeks.......I was probably expecting a bit too much
