Well despite all the slingshots about too many lessons, too much practice etc I snuck down the range after work tonight (there is a post on my blog if you are interested). It was one of those rare sessions where everything clicked and the swing is smooth and the ball goes effortlessly high and straight. I wanted to work on the driving as it was a nightmare on Sunday in the medal (and erratic on Monday). It went like a dream, on a low boring trajectory and with a soupcon of draw. The only bad one I hit was when I got very quick and slid the hips instead of turning looking to send it out of the range. Cue a big yahoo and a huge slice.

The swing may not be textbook, I may over analyse. I might have way too many lessons for little or no return but tonight, for once, I am a very smug golfer who is hitting the ball (for now) superbly

Fine but hitting it great on the range when you are blasting it into a field means little Homer...it is on the course that matters and that is where it need to be counting if you are going to get the handicap moving south.

Guys Im not being funny but shouldn't we give Homer a break. When he is down on himself he gets told to enjoy his golf but when he is pleased with his progress he gets hammered. Just seems a little harsh

Nice feeling when it all comes together in one session.

Your pureing the irons, and creaming the driver over the fence at the back of the range.....and then you hit the course!!! ;)

My mate sometimes says he wishes he could take the range mate out on the course with him!!! :)

Good work though Homer, take it through to the weekend and go shoot a good score.

Great news Homer - keep it going - there is nothing better than feeling as though you are in the middle of a purple patch - just keep at it - do the same things on Saturday and it will be fine
I know how you feel - I have the feeling all is coming together - except putting!
Get Mrs Homer to video you or put it on your phone to refer to

Apparently you can mate, I played with a psychology proffesor last year who said that when he plays he envisages the range and how hits the ball there, ie relaxed and with no pressure. So when he is on the course he is able to blank out things and can go into his comfort zone, I am not saying it is easy like. Same fella got me onto bob rotella, I also read Joseph Parent, Zen golf. I am trying it myself to remain calm etc and try to put myself in that happy place, but I am not mentally tough enough to do it for 18 holes, can maybe do 14, then get tired/distracted too much.

I don't mind Smiffy picking on me. After all he's seen the swing in action and so knows that when its good its passable but when it goes, boy does it go. Worse case scenario I'll nick his zimmerframe at the Ascot meet

I got the same feeling at the range a couple of nights ago. It was great. Hope to take it on to the course this weekend....

I'm sure i said that last week and i was a nightmare at the weekend past!

lol... this game is a bugger at times!
