Greens that is.....

I played a 4BBB stableford this morning off 3/4 handicap and in difficult enough conditions my partner and I turned with 20 points....

Playing put of our skin on the back 9 we reacherd the 17th tee on 38 points....

Our 17th is a Par 3 168mtrs over water to a 2 tiered green protected by 2 bunkers...
My buddied pulled his tee shot way left and into the cabbage and i stood up and hit my tee shot to 30 ft and on the right tier...

Walked off with squat...
The greens were hollow cored and pretty sandy but here's my question.....

If your ball is in one of the Hollow core holes are you allowed to move it left or right or behind the hole?

It cost us a good par for 3 points this morning..
I just cant find anything on the subject....
I was livid as we were going to be bringing in a pretty good score if i had not have made an arse of the putts....I was disgusted
We finished with 40 points so at least a respectable enough score off a 10 and a 14 handicap.
Still iv been playing pretty well the past 3 rounds as well as keeping my score this morning i feel there is a last ditch effort to knock a couples of figures off thehandicap. :)

I was unsure guys....And on 2 seperate occasions this morning when i had the displeasure of landing in these we had the debate about the do's and dont's...

Well at least ill know the next time it happens.

Good Question kid we were wondering this very thing this morning, meant to post earlier & ask the very same question, terrible job done on ours.. can it be abnormal ground when the whole green is like that ?? does anybody know for definate?? i thought it would have to be a local rule ..

4. Course Conditions - Mud, Extreme Wetness, Poor Conditions and Protection of the Course

d. Aeration Holes

When a course has been aerated, a Local Rule permitting relief, without penalty, from an aeration hole may be warranted. The following Local Rule is recommended:

"Through the green, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.

On the putting green, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be placed at the nearest spot not nearer the hole that avoids the situation.

Thought as much .. b too good an idea for our place to implement a local rule like that tho

Cheers Mate ;)

It's an issue i think that i will bring up with one of our committee members next weekend i think.

I emailed R&A for clarification, here is the response. Very quick really as I only emailed them late last night. and the replay was done this morning

Thank you for your email and query on the Rules of Golf.

Generally, there is no relief from aeration holes. However, as this type of maintenance can interfere with the proper playing of the game, the Committee in charge of the competition or course can introduce a Local Rule providing free relief from aeration holes. In the absence of such a Local Rule, the ball must be played as it lies.

The recommended wording for the Local Rule is contained in Appendix 1, Part B, 4d of the Rules of Golf.

I hope that this is of assistance.

Kind regards
